SOURCE: how do you take a ignition switch out of a 1977

Tilt or non tilt the procedure is the same. Check around the barell their should be a small hole with a pin in it. Put the key in the ignition and with a small screwdriver push in the pin then slide out the switch. The pin won't go in without the key in the switch. If the pin won't go in with the key in the switch turn the key one position and try again then another until the pin pushes for you. If you have lost the key then its not so simple because you will need to bore out the pin and the problem with this is the metal in the pin is harder than the metal in the barell so the drillbit will slide to the softer metal.

SOURCE: neutral ignition switch

automatic or stick? makes a difference, if it's a stick it's on the chutch pedal if it's an automatic it's on the transmisson where the linkage hooks up to the shifter, remove the linkage by removing the nut that hold the shifter on then remove the screws that hold the safety netural backup light switch on be sure you have the E brake on before removing and chalk the wheels remove the switch and go to the parts store and buy a new switch and replace you will have to disconnect the wire harness connted to the switch as well it is a short wire with 4 wire or sometimes 5 on it when installing the new switch be sure to move the new switch to the forward postion so that it set on the can correctly you can turn the inside ring with your fingers to move it once it is lined up replace hold down screws and replace linkage nut.

How to remove commutatuer switch on 2003 dodge van

I think he is referring to the ignition switch. I think Switch Translates to French as commutator or interrupter. After removing the steering column covers, You will need toremove the lock cylinder. Once that is out of the way you will need to unplug the clock spring connector for the airbag. Than if you have tilt wheel you will need to remove the tilt lever. Non tilt wheel will have a bracket that needs to be removed. You will than be able to access the screws that hold the ignition switch in place.

What is the procedure to changing an keyed ignition lock?

Hi there,

Removal

Disconnect the negative battery cable with the proper size wrench and place away from the battery.
Insert the key into the ignition lock cylinder and turn the key to the run position.
Remove the steering column cover on a tilt steering wheel model by pressing the upper and lower section of the cover together and pulling free from the mounting plate. Remove the steering column covers on a non tilt steering wheel model by using a Philips screwdriver and unscrewing the mounting screws.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch by lifting up on the release tab and pulling.
Press the ignition switch actuator pin by pushing a small screw driver into the key lock cylinder, while doing this pull the ignition switch out of the ignition switch housing.

Installation

Insert the new key into the new ignition switch and turn the key to the run position. Insert the new ignition switch into the ignition switch housing. Wiggle the switch back and forth until the actuator pin mounting hole is aligned and falls into place.
Install the electrical connector back into the connector housing by pressing it in with your hands.
Place the steering column covers back onto the non tilt steering wheel and insert mounting screws. Tighten screws using a Philips screwdriver. Place the steering column covers over the tilt steering wheel and press the upper and lower portion together to snap covers back into the mounting plate.
Pull on the ignition key to ensure switch is locked into place. Turn key to the "off" position and remove the key. Insert the key and start the vehicle.

Hope these help.

I can't get the rod that connects the key lock and door latch in the right position to work correctly.

The only way my headlights in my 1999 dodge ram worked was if i did Tilt Wheel know they dont come on at all...went to a dodge dealer and the answer i got was NEVER HEARD OF THAT....Ya right!can any shed...

If tilting the wheel turned the headlights on, it sounds like there's a problem with the ignition switch. Or if the headlight switch is a stalk on the steering column, possibly a fault somewhere in that switch or the wiring to it. First thing to do is find the headlight fuses and see if you have power on both sides of the fuse with the key on. If you don't, i would take the steering column covers off and look for a broken wire or burnt connector at the ignition switch.

Blower motor for heat and ac would only come on when I messed with the tilt wheel. Now it wont work at all.

Try the ignition switch, dodge has them on backorder so there is a problem that just has not got big enough to recall. The switch is only $14.30 unless you have a V10. Mine started off as the turnsignals quit working unless you moved the tilt steering and the the heater would only work in the tilt up position.
