Steering wheel noise & Boosting

If I am parked or drive really slowly (i.e. when parking) and I turn the steering wheel fast it makes a terrible loud noise. Is this normal? Maybe the system Audi uses in the steerings has technology that shouldn't be turned fast while car is not speeding...?

My car is Multitronic 1.8T and when I boost it from stop position it may take a few miliseconds to go. Also, I have to step on it to make sure it goes as it should...

Is the above normal? My 1.8T Cabrio has now 80000 miles.

I have an A$ 3.0 that shows the same issues. Loud noises from turning the wheel. Power steering fluid system was flushed to address problem, but within two days it is back. Any suggestions?

Hi, Not sure if its the same thing but my 57 Audi A4 Cab went in for a clunking type noise when on hard lock at slow speeds, i.e pulling out of junctions or parking etc. They replaced the O/S Suspension Arm but it continued to make the noise when i got it back. The engineer then came out with me to experience it and said that all A4 Cabs and R8s make this noise. Apparently, its the wheels not sticking to the road and then suddenly they do which sends vibrations up through the car and causes a clunk. I thought this was rediculous but he took me out in another at the garage and the noise was replicated. Its known thing all to do with the way the suspension is set up so changing the wheels will not solve the problem. I have never experienced it on any other car before, but guess its something i have to live with!

Sounds like the high effort sensor in the rack is causing high feed back pressure, making the steering pump belt squeal. Try adding some Lucas Automatic Transmission Conditioner to the steering fluid reservoir .

SOURCE: A4 steering lock does not engage and car won't turn over

The steering locks don't necessarily engage when the key is removed, I always turn the wheel before exiting to engage it. There are several positions that will allow the pin to lock in but if between these, it may seem that it isn't locked.

SOURCE: TURBO NOT BOOSTING

Hello, I am a Saab technician from upstate new york. It sounds to me that the turbo wastegate rod may be seized to the turbo control valve. The easiest way to try to fix this is to spray penetrating oil on the turbo valve/ wastegate rod and work it back and forth with a pry bar. Many times u can also heat this up with a torch and pray. If those two things don't work than the turbo valve itself is seized into the guide hole machined into the turbo. good luck.

SOURCE: don't know car won't start even after boosting pontiac g6

lenmercredi2, Sounds to me like the starter, the clicking sound you hear is the shaft on the starter popping out, but the shaft is not spinning. The shaft pops out and spins the flywheel to start the car, but sounds like its not working. You more than likely need a new starter, hope this helps :)

My power steering pump pulley is making a terrible noise, it just started sunday and we have just replaced the idler and ac by pass pulley. The power steering pulley noise comes and goes...?

It sounds like the power steering pump itself is bad. You mentioned changing the pulleys. Does the vehicle screech or whine when turning the wheel in a parked position? There is also what is called the power steering gear box. They do sometimes go bad as well. I would also look for any leaks in the power steering hoses.

A bumping noise in the steering wheel when you turn it

caused by the power steering pump, a small price to pay to pay for light steering at slow speed.
you'll find most cars with steer assist tend to make some additional noise when the pump is being called on.... if the pump is faulty and eventually gives in, the worst that'll happen is being stubborn (heavy) to turn slow corners or while parking.

Front end and steering wheel shakes

when slowing to make right turn is it more like a clicking noise, does it do it while turning or just when slowing down. If it is while you are turning it is most likely the right cv axle drive shaft popping. When at a stop with ac on does it shake if you put it in park and how do the rpms read in park or in drive. Did they change the trans mount also dont thank that is it just trying to get a better understanding so I can better assist you.
