In order to find out what's causing the problem, the headliner must be dropped (removed) to access the sunroof motor so it can be inspected and removed to inspect the slide cables up inside the sunroof/moonroof assy. Until that's done, there's not much more I can do to help except speculate.

I agree if it's anything like a regular window mechanism and it's getting stuck completely and making noises when doing ti likey cable is old or torn and finally got jammed. Don't keep pushing the button your just gonna make it worse. It's not gonna magically get better . I had to replace the entire window cable assembly ot was frayed or a year made funny noise when open and closing it I ignored it and of course regretted it two years later when It finally got fully jammed ..I could have snipped a wire and maybe mad don't work but I ignored it and kept using it making the issue worse. You have to look at the mechanism to underground it. Luckily only had to take my entire door off to replace it. Headliner sounds like fun ! Lol

1996 Jaguar xj6 sunroof will not close you can hear motor running, how can you manual close it?

If you remove any gear that is coupling it to the motor you should be able to slide it back to where you want. I would put gear back just to hold it in place and keep it from moving. But you do have to replace that gearbox for future operation.

Subaru outback moonroof won't close moonroof vent stuck on passenger side

If this occured after trying to close the shade while the moonroof was opening, it is possible that the plastic tab that locks into the vent (and subsequently the rest of the moonroof) has been bent. I was having a similar problem where my vent would only go up on one side and stay closed on the other (and it would sometimes get stuck open). It would also prevent the rest of the moonroof from opening up. If this is the case, from what I can tell, there is no easy fix for this. Upon researching this problem, you are the only other person asking about it and zero fixes. For the time being, the vent can be closed by lifting up on one side to "unlock" the stuck tab and you should be able to put it down. After that, you should look up instructions to remove your moonroof glass to see if you can inspect the affected area to determine the cause. Here is a link that shows you how to remove the moonroof glass, but does not address the exact issue you describe.

Manually close sienna moonroof

not sure if a manual close is possible

if weather is an immediate problem some perspex and duct tape is a good solution

best locate the motor and remove the motor or get 12 volts to it
see if it moves

the motor ( 14 ) is towards the front of the sunroof up behind the plastic roof moulding

Linc Navigator Moonroof Stuck Open

I had the same problem with mine. 2003 Navigator, and the moonroof would open but wouldn't close. When hitting the switch to "open" you'd hear a click, but no sound when trying to close it. So I popped that console down off the ceiling, pulled out the harness for that switch, and figured out which wires to jump to close it.

Moon roof is not closing properly

you are having a problem with either your power switch which opens and closes the moonroof. or either you may in fact have a motor problem with moonroof. check to see if you may have an electrical short in your system. also you also may have something wrong with your moonroof sliding armature.
