Where do you live?
This has been a hot summer, bit hotter than usual due to the solar flares going on...
as long as the pointer stays within normal operating range, you must not worry... especially since you changed the thermostat and did a flush, did you make sure you got the right temperature range thermostat installed, rarely but few times that seems to be the problem, hotter thermostat gets installed by mistake.

How to change the thermostat on the 98 ls montero sport ...where is it located and what does the housing look like

assuming you have a 3.0 v6, follow the top hose from your radiator until you can see where it connects on the other end. That is your thermostat housing. Make sure you do this while engine is cool.

Thermostat montero sport?

It should be found at the bottom hose that goes to the bottom of the radiator and located towards the engine block. You should be able to see a plug and wires coming out of it.

If you've had any major work done to the engine when or since changing radiator, it may have old gasket etc blocking top of cores. Make sure thermostat isn't blocked and ensure radiator fan is doing it's job.
