Most cars have non greasable ball joints. When they go bad they are replaced with greasable ones. Unusual wear on tires or looseness in steering or a clunking sound coming for the front are all signs of need for replacement of, at least some , front end part(s).

As suggested it could be underhood electrical interference. If the "static" changes with increased rpms (rev the motor to find out) chances are it is ignition related and could be literally everything from the alternator to the ignition coil through the distributor cap, but best bet is the spark plug wires (which if still original really should be replaced anyway) or the plugs themselves. If your am static doesn't change with engine revolutions and your fm works okay I would check antenna and the antenna connections at the base of antenna and back of radio. if you cant even get a clear signal on the most powerful AM station in your area, I would bet on some kind of break in the connection between radio and antenna. p.s. if you;ve anything plugged into cigarette lighter or other 12volt outlets in the vehicle unplug them before doing any of the rest!

Check to see if the pump is working. If not replace entire system with quality (Monroe) after market standard spring/shock set up. Check to see if air bag is holding air. If not replace entire system per above. In other words replace air system. I replaced mine on 2004 Navigator and could hardly till the difference. I thought it had a more comfortable ride all around. Maybe 1/2 inch higher. Made it easier to sell because of the poor reputation of the air system. Air system is very expensive to replace.

You could have a bad pump, or a leak somewhere in the system! The pump is usually located on the passenger side wheel well! From there, follow the air lines along the underneath side of the vehicle to the suspension unit! if there are no leaks to that point, you may have to replace the air bag on the rear. They are very expensive to replace also! My 89 Continental was $1400!

blend door problem, common on fords of this vintage-get down low on passenger side and with a flashlight, look for a door with an arm actuator. They commonly break, but you can manually open it to get air to the defrost.

Your air compressor should be found under the hood, on the right hand side, mounted just behind the head light.

Have someone knowledgeable check the "Cam Phasers" for you. You will often hear a "tic" or "knock" from the engine at low speeds and gradually disappearing at 2000rpm.

This series of parts have been trouble for awhile. Look up "Cam Phaser" articles on the Web.
