2000 Suzuki Grand Vitara - Page 7 Questions & Answers
Hi i have a 2000grand vitara that has fuel problems useing to much
Fuel usage is somewhat subjective on your part, more of a guessAs a vehicle gets older the mileage will go down somebut not muchOnly thing you can do is basic preventative maintenanceThat is something you should have decades of experiencewith and if you have no log book for all you vehicles then youreally do have the interestSpark plugs every 3 years along with gas & air filterO2 Sensors start to slow down around 100,000 miles &also failThey are the only or most important part to fuel injectionadjustment ,so replace the front upstream onesAlso you could have a failing & partially clogged exhaustconverter. That not only causes a restriction but also effects the O2Sensor feed back to the computer for fuel trim
Need to remove parking brake cable from rear end to remove rear end
The brake cable can be a real pain to get out of the rear brake backing plate if you do not know how. There is a really easy way to do this. First, you must disassemble your rear brakes to get the cable end disengaged from from the parking brake lever inside the drum assembly. Then come the "fight" trying to get the "holding tangs" depressed so the cable housing can be removed from the backing plate. I have fought these things for hours with lots of cussing. There is usually three or four holding tangs keeping the thing from pulling out of the backing plate. You push one in and the next one will grab. You push the next one in, and the first one will grab again. Then someone showed me the easy way....Take a small screw-type hose clamp and slip it over the end of the cable so it is over the holding tangs. Tighten the clamp just enough to squeeze all of the holding tangs in. Then simply pull on the cable. It will pull right out of the backing plate and the clamp will simply slip off of the end of the cable housing (unless you have OVER tightened it).Look at the picture below, which shows what I am talking about. This is just a "generic" brake cable shown in the picture. Yours may look different, but the principle is the same.
Overheating
If it's overheating but not losing coolant, replace the thermostat. If it's overheating from loss of coolant, replace the radiator cap with one that is the proper pressure for that engine.Rigger says luck toya.
2002 Suzuki heat shield
I have never had a problem after removing heat shields. Shouldn't make a difference to any test.
