Check engine light on because egr
did you scan it? in USA? we can easy, with any new Scan tool.
by new , i mean not 1996 tool.
the MPI engines all have this air box, at the start of the intake air tunnels and below (behind) the throttlebody.
There are like 10 EGR systems, and some times non at all , new jeeps for example.
it varies by engine type. you car can come with more than one
engine as an option, so before working on any engine, ID it, find out
which engine, it might be (99% of posters here dont say)
btw , if you login to alldata.com it will show the EGR.
as will the Acura FSM for your car.
they show all the tests, but most FSM never show the #1 cause
carbon packup.
there are 2 basic types, vacuum and electric controlled, newer cars
are all electric, (egr motors)
I log in and look for TL
the TL has and egr lift sensor, that gives feed back
so using the scan tool , it would tell you a DTC error, that says
feedback fails, (that means the valve is carbon packed or input bad)
so many engines, there, and so many EGR variants
Generic answer no engine:
the EGR fails, DTC #P040x
usually do to EGR mail or its full exhaust path blocked in carbon.
or 1 or 2 EGR sensors bad.
or the controls that control it , vacuum and or electric are dead.
or the engine has huge air leaks ,causing one EGR sensor to fib.
that covers it.
tell country , tell engine, and there is hope.
