What is the best battery for my 2003 subaru
I swear by Optima batteries. The RedTop is excellent. They're dry-cell batteries so you don't have to maintain water levels, and they're very powerful (the red is around 900 amps) and they recover extremely quickly. My Sentra years back had an alternator failure and the battery itself powered the headlights, coils, etc by itself for at least a couple of weeks, judging by the look of the alternator when I changed it. They're not cheap ($120-150 depending on the seller) but they are worth every penny, especially in colder climates where the extra cold punch can make all the difference.
How do you replace a fuel filter on a 2003 subaru
The filer is located on the left side of the engine compartment by the strut tower. Usually it is held on by just a snap type clip or in some cases you will have to loosen the screw that simply holds the filter tight by a clamp. You will need a phillips head screwdriver, loosen the three hose clamps on the top of filter to three fuel lines.carefully pull the hoses off the fittings and reverse the proceedure. Have a rag handy to claen up your mess if needed. Also dont over tighten the clamps when installing, they are pretty cheap. let your car run for a minute or two, shut it off and check for leaks. Hope this helps ya, please let me know.

2003 Subaru Outback 3.0 automatic transmission.
Hello, from your description it sounds like your front differential has, for lack of a better term, exploded! the grinding noise is the ring and pinion in the front differential trying to turn w/ the rest of the transmission but most or all of the gear teeth have been broken off. There are 3 sections of your transmission: the front section which is the front differential, the center section which is where all of your main clutch packs and planetary gear sets are, and the rear section which houses your tranfer clutches. Your front differential contains gear oil and the center and rear section contains auto trans fluid. You need to check your front diff fluid, this is the fluid that is most likely covering your undercarriage. Usually this concern can be repaired as long as the damage isn't to great, but to assess the damage the transmission must be removed and pulled apart. Here is a diagram of where to find your front diff dip stick.
The dip stick is located on the opposite side of where the transmission fluid dip stick is. It's yellow and you have to be standing on the passengers' side of the engine compartment, make sure the engine is cold so you won't get burned, not that you'd be driving it anyway. You must reach down just behind the bell housing on the side of the transmission itself and just lift straight up. I hope this info helps...(subytech1)...

Sounds like something is loose. I would check the Electrical connections. If not check the Vacuum lines and intake to Manifold for loose parts or broken lines. I wish you luck and have a good day.
