You get a scanner to see what code is stored if any. Most likely you have a bad solenoid internal to the tranny thats bad or sticking. Also if you have engine issues this could also cause trans issues. Either way you will need an expensive scanner. You cannot rent one. You will need to take the truck into the shop for diagnosing

My 1978 F-250 has an ALT light. I have replaced
1978????? my best guess would be loose connection somewhere or glazing on a terminal. however with that many years on it I have seen the wires between the alt and batt and volt regulator get rusted under the coating (usually toward the ends) so you could peel back the casing and check that. you may need to replace those wire harnesses
I have a 1970 F250
I've pulled steering columns apart before, especially in the early 70's trucks. The mechanisms in your column sound like they are worn beyond repair. There are ways to fix them or restore them but the easiest thing to do would be to rplace the column. They are a pain to put back together when disassembled. If you need help in locating a replacement column, let me know...email me at
[email protected]. I would be able to get you one fairly cheap. I woould only charge you EXACTLY what the post office charges. I am active duty air force and also a seller on ebay (c17hydro). I have a paypal account and like I said, I would be more than willing to get you a replacement column. Just let me know the particulars for you and we can go from there.

Fuel pours into the carb while runing or in the
You may have dirt in the needle valve. A quick fix for this is to remove the fuel line and attach a longer line to it, placing the free end into a large container (at least one gallon) Floor the pedal if necessary to get started, then back off and keep it running till the carb runs out of fuel. Re-attach the line to the carb and re-start...the rush of fuel going past the valve often will clean it off. If you do this twice and don't get it to work, then the carb needs to come apart and the float has to be checked to make sure it still floats, and that the fuel bowl isn't full of gunk. If it is, either rebuild it or replace it.
