If it does it at random times, could be a short in the starter solenoid or a relay. You could disconnect the small wire on the solenoid from the key switch to eliminate the starter solenoid as a test.

Along with the vacuume leaks I would check the carb. The accelerator pump might be out of adjustment or something else in the carb. Currently I have the same problem with mine and I just adjusted it and for 1 day so far it's ran fine but I have a holley on mine. Carb may be dirty also.

You may have a wiring harness problem, I'd really suggest you stop throwing parts in this and have the dealer check the wiring harness, it is called a pin point test.

it sound like you broke the sun shell in the transmission.

this is pretty common with the 4l60e transmission, when the sun shell breaks you will lose reverse and fourth gear, the only remedy is to replace the transmssion or have it repaired, the repair will require the transmission be removed and disassembled, you will need to purchase a new sun shell (get a heavy duty replacement) and a papper rubber kit for the repair, the kit costs about $80.00 and the new sun shell is about $65.00, just find a good trans guy to provide the labor.

There should be a plug in the side of the transmission you take out to check the fluid level. The fluid should be near that plug. That is also where you add fluid if it is low.

I think the ignition starter switch is defective, that would be the only thing that i know of that could cause this. The ignition starter switch is located at the base of the steering column roughly on the top. Pay attention to the adjustment of the old switch and place the new switch in the same position. Do not break the connector removing it. take your time. The part is about $12.00.
