Look at the detents in the shift rails for worn parts. Sounds like a shift fork is either bent or broken.

I have a 2006 vw jetta 2.5 it starts only on an cold start and runs for 1 or 2 minutes but sounds weak. Also I have gas on the sparks. It cranks but wont run and drive. I checked the fuel pump and filter and spark plugs and coils which are good. Does anyone know what might be wrong?
low fuel pressure? Have you checked fuel pressure at the rail?
