convertible top won't go back up, can you help?

My convertible top to my 2001 Ford Mustang convertible won't go back up. I already purchased a Mustang manual, but there was no information regarding the convertible top in it. Is there a manual specifically for the convertible top? What advice can you provide? Is it the motor or just a fuse? Please advise.

IT is probably a fuse. Does it work at all? my mustang had a busted cylinder and only 1 side would go up. If it doesnt work at all then check your fuses. With no manual you will have to use a flashlight and shine on them and see if one is blown. IF they all look good then I would go buy a testlight for about $10 and manually check the fuses for power. It oculd be the motor, however that will cost you several hundred dollars and that is if you install it yourself.

Ford Mustang service engine soon and check fuel cap lights are on

I have a 2001 Ford Mustang and my service engine soon light and check fuel cap light are on. I bought a new fuel cap thinking that was the reason for both lights being on, but they are still on! What else could be the reason for both of these lights being on?

just went through this myself. first be sure there are no leaks incap as suggested. second, since computer system pressurizes fuel system as part of emissions, any possible leak, like in filler neck to tank, will trip the check engine. that fixed it for me - last summer. now, new problem showed up again. this time 2 different trouble codes: EGR valve and a pressure sensor. fixed the problem. a week ago, light back on. this time a no $ fix-loose vacumn hose. best advice like the other guys said is to get it scanned and start there.

service engine code P0402 for Ford Mustang

P0402 OBD-II Trouble Code - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow (EGR) Excessive Detected

What does that mean?
EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. It is part of the vehicle emmissions system, and is used to reduce combustion temperature and pressure to control Oxides of Nitrogen. There are generally three parts to the EGR system: the EGR valve, an actuator solenoid, and a differential pressure sensor (DPF). These things work together to deliver the correct amount of recirculation based on engine temperature, load, etc. The P0402 code means that OBD detected an excessive amount of EGR.

Symptoms
You may notice drivability problems such as the engine may surge off idle. There may also be other symptoms.

Causes
A code P0402 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
* The DPFE (differential pressure) sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced
* There is a blockage in the EGR (most likely carbon buildup)
* The EGR valve is faulty
* The EGR valve may not be opening due to a lack of vaccuum

Possible Solutions
With a P0402, it is common for people to replace the EGR valve, only to have the problem return. The most likely solution is to replace the DPFE sensor.
* Check the voltage at the DPFE sensor both at idle and when the EGR is open
* Replace the DPFE sensor

Hope helps (remember rated and comment this).

the starter is on the driver's side of the engine. There may be an oxygen sensor bracket in the way to accessing it. If so, remove the harness to the sensor using your hands and unbolt the bracket from the engine using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. if you have to follow the battery lead.
