Starting how ? Does the engine spin when you turn the key to the start position ? Or it doesn't do anything ? Is there a SECURITY light lit on the dash ?
Hi Debra:
If this was intentional I suggest that you have troubles other than your car.
If it was no intentional then perhaps you could ask him to describe what he did, share that information with us, and hopefully someone will be able to assist.
It mite not be running hot at all , I replaced a few stepper motors for the temp. gauge inside the instrument cluster . GM products of your year ,have known instrument cluster gauge problems . Best thing is to hook up to a factory scan tool or another type of professional grade scan tool to see what the engine computer is seeing from coolant temp.sensor Do your cooling fans come on ? They should at about 221 degrees . Or you came go to harbor freight an by a temp. inferred gun. point it at the upper radiator hose near the thermostat , an see what the actual temp. is . How to repair GM Instrument Cluster Speedometer Gauge Stepper
the problem is probably in the horn contact button under the steering wheel making a short (earth) when it is not supposed to
you will have to remove the steering wheel to fix it
Hi Jason remove belt and turn all the pulleys by hand there must be one seizing. And check the crank pully some have a rubber damper that fails and causes the outer pully to spin on the inner one. Good Luck.
Just curious why you think the idle is too low on your Grand Am. Do you have a SES/CEL onin the Instrument Panel? If so, take it to an O'Reilly, Autozone, Advance Auto, or your local Auto Parts store. Have them plug in the DIagnostic Trouble Code Reader to get the error codes. The DTC reader will probably give you suggested trouble/repair resolutions. Otherwise take it to a reputable auto repair shop.
If you car's trans is the 4T45E trans then there will be no dipstick, there is a *fill plug* located on the converter housing. The *level* plug is at the back of the trans down near the end of the tailshaft next to the passenger side axleshaft. Pull out the level plug and look to see if there is any sign of fluid at the bottom of the port. If not, add fluid thru the port on the top of the converter housing until fluid begins to seep out the level plug port.
Block heaters are not a factory options. They are installed as an aftermarket option after the vehicle is purchased. If you have not installed a block heater than there is likely not one in the vehicle. If one was installed it would be in one of the frost plugs in the side of the block. Since it is an aftermarket install the cord could be anywhere or missing. And experienced automotive professional would be able to find it if it was installed the next time you where in for service. Most automatic headlights operate by a sensor of some sort, either on your rear-view mirror or elsewhere...Is it possible that the sensor is covered up?
