I have a 2005 pontiac grand am my service verhicle

Yes thier both right you just need to show up at any auto parts store and ask them to scan your car. They don't mcharfge for this service as they hope to sell you the parts to fix it with. If the check engine light has been on with the engine running theirs definatly a troble code staored in the computer and I need to know the numbers of these codes and if thier in the system more than once and I need to know if they will clear and then if just running the engine fore a minute they come back or not. Anything can do what you said but the codes will put you in the right direction. Sounds like the coolant temperture senser goes open and the computer ( thinks) the engine is cold and throws lots of fuel and then it comes back on and the car straightens back up. The senser code will be th=in the computer if the senser or it's wiring are bad.

The car cuts off while driving.

If after engine shut off and there is no battery power to turn the engine over, its possible that you have some problem with the battery, alternator or loss battery cable connection.

If when the engine dies and there is still battery power to turn the engine over and over again to try and restart the engine, then you probably do have a CKP (Crankshaft Position) sensor or some other sensor problem. The crankshaft sensor controls spark to the spark plug but I would not run out and replace that sensor.

Additionally, I suggest scanned the PCM (Powertrain Control Module - computer), keep in mind that a fault code probably be stored in your computer anyway because the engine died while driving.

Keep us updated after this test jobs.

Car shut off while driving, now it won't restart.

Hello,

Seems to me that you might have a bad fuel pump or an intermitant fuel pump problem. If you access to a fuel pressure gauge I would install it and check to see if you have good fuel pressure. You will want to also check for fuel volume over a certain period of time and a Glass Container measure the amound of fuel if any coming out of the test port. You will have to remove the small shreader valve to do this test.

I would like to help you further with other steps and diagnostic procedures, please contact me if you will.

Thank you and best of luck.

The fan is not working,

Check the fuse for the blower motor. (fan motor). If it isblown, change it. If it's not, you may need a new fan motor. Check to see if power is present at the fan motor. If it is, then the motor is probably burnt out.

Reset Change Oil light

After oil has been changed or the oil is at the correct level, disconnect the negative battery cable for a couple minutes and plug back in. This should reset the light, if for some odd reason it doesn't, then a scan tool will be needed to reset it.
