The car dies while driving, changed out egr

I would start with a good healthy tune up since the car has sat. Change plugs, wires, oil,oil filter, air filter, PCV valve, FUEL FILTER, and as old as it is (and if you plan on keeping it) change trans fluid & filter. This will give you a good "ground zero" point for reliability,

Just replaced a crank sensor in 89 olds cutlass

It has to be put on where the two vanes do not touch the sensor. There is a tool for this, but you can align the sensor if you put the balancer almost on and look at it from the top with a light under it. Put it on just like tho old one came off. To use as reference point.

Replace map sensor

If it has a map sensor, it is held on by two screws and connected to the intake manifold with a vacuum tube.

You would have a MAF sensor or mass air flow sensor on the 6 cylinder engine which would be contained in the black plastic intake air ductwork.

Our car broke down and the guy that hauled it

Before you tear the steering colomn apart, check at the top of the transmission. Follow the shift cable, it is right on top near the rear, and make sure it just hasn't popped of the manual shift lever of the tranny.

Were is the fuel pump on a 88' oldsmobile cutlass

If its a throttle body injection or multiport fuel injection the fuel pump is in the gastank, If it has the optional carburator for that year then it is on the engine block.

Car wont get gas

Hello!

First turn the car to the run position, (not cranking but the position where the key would rest after start) go back to the gas tank and listen for a constant "hum" or electrical motor sound, if you dont have that your fuel pump is dead.

If you hear the fuel pump constant sound then the problem is up stream, this could be a clogged fuel filter, fuel regulator problem or even clogged injectors.

If I had to guess it would be the fuel pump as the other things would or could still have the car somewhat running.

I hope this helps.
