It has a timing chain. A chain will typically last the life of the motor. The only time it really needs to be replaced is if it is making noise. The only time I replace them is if I have the front cover off to repair a leak. Since pulling the front cover is most of the labor its not a bad idea to replace the chain as long as it is right there.
The other exception is if the engine is starting to approach some really high mileage. Say around the 200,000 mile or more range. The old timing chain doesn't owe you anything and it certainly can't hurt to install a new one. I’m happy to assist further over the phone at

Yes, It is on your transmission / gear box problem. Please get it fixed then and no need to do something to your engine ( other than transmission / gear box). Otherwise just the the set of transmission.

The fan on my 96
Barring the simple blown fuse every time my fan has quit working on all my cars it was one of the following. 1 the bearings went bad in the fan and the fan became sticky. you can tell this by rapping on the fan motor itself while it is turned on, if it starts then it is sticky and doesnt have long to live. 2 the motor burned out completely you can tell this by applying 12v from the battery directly to the motors contacts in the proper polarity + to + - to - . If you are not sure how to apply power to a motor to test it you might want to have someone that knows how do it for you. if it doesn't run pretty good sign the motors dead. 3 there is a fault in the wiring and you would use the test for #2 to determine the motor is still good then start checking the wiring and switches. I usually check in the following order, glance at the led embedded in the AC switch on the AC console to make sure the unit has power , rap on the fan housing because its out in the open on the firewall under the hood and im lazy, check the fuses just for the heck of it even though the AC unit LOOKED powered, curse a bit, apply power to the motor to test it. I have only had 1 car with mysterious bad intermittent AC wiring and 1 car with a bad switch the rest were all motors that went bad.
Car wont start battery charged turn the key car
It could be a number of things. Make sure your your battery has a good connection. Make sure your car is getting fuel. Check the fuel pump. Spray gas into your intake, just a little bit. Try to start your car. If it starts and then dies, you are not getting fuel. Check your fuses. Try to get it tested for codes. This will let you know what is wrong. If you are getting gas, we can check other things. Let me know, I am here to help.
My car won't turn over
Check that the battery isn't discharged. Charge it up if necessary, or replace if it won't take a charge.
Then, test the starter.

Is there a check engine light on? is there a DTC (diagnostic trouble code) stored in the PCM (powertrain control module)? This issue is most likely not related to the Body control module due to the starting system is also affected.
Where is the body control

not sure what the shop did, but the procedure at
http://vats.likeabigdog.com/ usually works.
Remote start will not work, as it has no inherent bypass. you can install a bypass they sell for remote starting systems, but there is a guy that designed a system that is sure to work--I think he guarantees it. Here is his website:
http://newrockies.ca/ . I haven't tried his system, but what he says sounds right to me.
