1999 Dodge Caravan - Page 4 Questions & Answers
My 1999 dodge caravan is still overheating. I have already replaced the thermostat and the water pump, also there is no heat. please help me someone!
Hi there.
Well you can either have a problem with either radiator outer {dust/dirt in outer core of radiator or clogged up inside were water goes, or soft hoses, blowen head gasket plus a few others ,but first go to garage to were you blow up your tyres and use the air hose and blow out the radiator core where the air goes in, 2 drain out radiator water and then refill with water at 1 ltr at a time and then check your info car book and find how much water the radiator takes ,if it dosent take all the ltrs then the radiator is blocked inside.
if engine runs rough missing etc then get your Head gasket checked out.
When you say no heat is that with heat on gauge or no heat from heater, as it could be heater blockage same as radiator core. So let me know how you get on.
Signal lights wont work
Do your fourway flashers work?
This problem is likely a burned out flasher unit. Generally this is an easy item to fix on any car. On your dodge it might be somewhat harder. You will need to consult your user manual to find the flasher location.
Driver's side power window goes down, but not up.
hi, take the door panel off and check the window motor. sounds like the resistance of the window going back up is causing the motor to slow down and freeze up. higher than normal amperage is required to roll the window up, rather than down which had gravity helping it. unless there is a bad spot in the regulator(the part that controls the window going up and down). windows will freeze up when the internal brushes get worn, sitcky. check the motor by tapping on it with light force while rolling up when it gets to the sticking point. or help the motor by pushing pressure up on the window through the range. if it works okay like this, it's the window motor. but when you go to buy a part, you may find that the window motor maybe included only as assembly with regulator. check it out.
My 99 dodge caravan drove it today and it barely would go and was smoking what could it be
First you need to be sure if it is smoke or steam..Set parking brake ..,Get safety glasses .and safety mask for breathing..Is the smoke from the tailpipe or elsewhere ..,or is it smoking everywhere..?..Is it leaking anywhere. How many miles are on the van and what engine size..?..Make sure engine is cold for safety..Check coolant level...You can smell the coolant mix if it is steam...If it is smoke you can smell burning oil/fuel combination...If it is steam more than likely it is the head gasket and or possible cracked head or block in worse conditions..Some head gasket failures can leak outside of the engine .however it is rare...Check oil level and see if coolant/h20 mix is mixed with the oil...If it is it should show nasty color and or appear to be overfilled considering how long the failure has happened...If it is smoke it can be a few problems....valve seals..,clogged catalytic failure ..etc...Please send more info if possible And I will guide you through troubleshooting your system.....Thanks..
WHAT REPAIRS SHOULD I MAKE ON A 1999 DODGE CARAVAN , THE CODER SAID p 0001?
What does that mean? The P0001 DTC code is one of those codes that is very uncommon and is likely intermittent. Symptoms Symptoms of a P0001 DTC will include MIL (Malfunction indicator lamp) illumination, although there may be other symptoms. Potential Causes Well there is little to no good information on this code. The "Control Circuit/Open" indicates it may be an electrical problem related to the fuel volume regulator. Possible Solutions If you get this DTC, you may want to try reading the codes using another (if possible) higher quality code reader. Even clear the code and see if the code comes back. This code is not common and sometimes is shown in error due to the design of the code reader (e.g. the code reader function is a secondary function of a tuner device). If this is a genuine engine code, then you'll want to inspect the wiring and connectors pertaining to the fuel volume regulator circuit and system and refer to a factory service manual for more specific troubleshooting steps.
All gauges dont work
try checking your fuses under your dash panel to see if one of them is boken/blown

The first thing to do is reach up (if possible) behind the cluster and make sure the plugs to it are fully inserted, push them in or remove and reinsert if possible to reach them. If that doesn't fix the problem the entire cluster must be removed and then sent out for repair to a shop that repair Chrysler electronics.

Hello garyprabi80: My name is Roger and I will help you. I have two different shop manuals and neither show a good picture. However the tubes you discribed are the rear heater core supply tubes. You will not find them in a part store. They will be either a dealer iteam or you may find them in a salvage yard. The dealer will have a picture you could look at and get an idea how they run. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger
1999 dodge caravon sport vaper lock
I had a 1999 Grand Caravan 3.3L and never had this problem and I lived in Fla. at the time but other vehicles that I've seen this problem in. First, is this vapor lock between the gas tank and the engine or in the engine compartment? If it's between the gas tank and the engine, you might have a rusted pin hole in the steel fuel line or sometimes there might be a section or rubber line in the fuel line where there might be movement in the system. If so, look for a rotted hose or a wet spots on the fuel line from the gas tank to the engine compartment. A tiny pin hole can leak gas out and/or air in and if it's small enough the gas can evaporate before it hits the ground. If it has started locking up in the engine compartment only after all these years, I'd have the fuel pump pressure checked. If this is the case and if it hadn't vapor locked since 1999, up until now the fuel pressure has been adequate to keep the fuel in it's liquid state in the heated environment of the engine compartment. If the pressure has gone low and the fuel line is bolted to something hot like the water pump, for example, like it was on my 1968 307 Chevy Bel Air, the fuel will boil hence, vapor lock. If this is your problem and you can't get it fixed right away, follow the fuel line up from the frame and look for it to be routed, again, near / onto something hot. If you can get it loose and away from the hot area without kinking the steel tube, this may help for a while. I don't know you or how much you know but I would advise against cutting the line and adding rubber hose as clamping a hose to a smooth steel line will eventually leak
and possibly cause a fire. If you know what you're doing or know someone who does, you could use a flairing tool and add more steel line if necessary. In any case, be careful. In the long run, it is always better to repair it or have it repaired properly. Good luck. Jeff M.
