Why does the silhouette make

The humming noise is probably caused by a bad bearing hub assembly which also caused the abs and tcs light to come on. Does this only make the noise when the lights are on and vehicle is not moving or just when vehicle is moving?

I have a 1998 Silhouette.

The low coolant light may be due to the sensor, these sensors go bad often, they are located on the front side of radiator. as far as overheating the first then i would do is a block test, this is done with a fluid to test if exhaust is entering the cooling system and stopping the flow which make it overheat, if it passes this test then i would replace the thermostant and go from there, hope this helps.

Will not start

Hi there:You will have to pinpoint what the engine is missing... Spark / Fuel / CompressionAll three of these are tested when the engine is being cranked over. There are two way of checking for fuel. Fuel pressure and fuel trigger. Both are very important and must be present for the engine to start. Fuel pressure is self explanatory. You just hook up the gage and see what the reading is. Fuel trigger is check with a noid light. The injector gets unplugged and the noid light gets plugged in to the injector clip. With the engine cranking over, this light must blink. This is the signal to the injectors from the computer. You can have all the fuel pressure in the world, but it wont matter if the injector is not pulsing gas into the cylinder like it should.Compression tester, spark tester, fuel pressure gage and noid light are all accessible at your local auto store. All three tests play a very important part in diagnosing a no start condition. Be extremely careful when doing these tests.Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

I have 1999 0ldsmobile van and the gas gage is stuck at 1/4 tank , also the odometer and trip don't work

The odometer/trip display in this model is a LCD display and it is burned out, it is a common fault on all GM models in this model year range. The problem can be repaired but it requires the Instrument cluster be removed form the Van and be sent out to a GM approved repair center. These repair shops are on the Internet just google GM instrument cluster repair. The cost is about $160.00 US. The gas gauge is a separate problem, it is caused by a defective gas level sending unit inside the gas tank. TO replace the level sensor for the gauge you must remove the gas tank from the van. To do this repair you need a good hydraulic floor jack, jack stands to support the car and a good set of common hand tools and a helper if you do the job on the ground. Use great caution when working on a gas tank as the risk if fire and explosion is quite high if proper care is not taken to a avoid creating sparks. Always dicinnect the battery negative cable before starting work on any part of the car. The parts cost for this is about $200 and 4-5 hours of hard labor.

My van is getting into the red is it the thermastat

it could be your thermostat, or a head gaasket. does it leak antifreeze? is there any smoke coming out of the tailpipe? no smoke probably means your headgasket is good. if it leaks antifreeze you could have a bad waterpump......depending on where its leaking from

Beeping sound in right side in back by jack department

The sound location is in proximity to the fuel pump. There have been several reported problems with 98/99 GM fuel pumps making a beeping sound. So you are not alone.I personally have never had to diagnose the problem but from the reports I've read it appears to be caused by insufficient pressure. Drive your Olds into AutoZone and have them perform a free diagnostic scan. Should that not reveal any problems, have them perform a fuel pressure test.
