Hi Allen, In addition to removing the covers did you remove anything else? If not, reassembling should do the trick. If yours is the engine with VANOS and Variable valve lift (with electronically controlled motor, make sure all connection and pick up sensors are good. If you've lost spark and injection, check the crankshaft and camshaft pickup sensors. Regards John

Check first to see if the brake lights work, the brake light circuit is what powers the Park safety lockout solenoid. If no brake lights then it will not come out of park position.

If its the v8 these have been known to blow head gaskets.
Do a head test or get a local garage to do one. Expensive job.

On any engine you should find timing marks on the end of camshaft which line up with Mark on the crankshaft. TDC is top dead center which is when the first most piston is on it's compression stroke. When you move the crank to TDC the firstmost or number one piston will be on the compression stroke. Turning the camshaft to align with the timing mark on crankshaft will put the engine in proper valve timing.

The BMW dealer sells a chemical that helps get rid of carbon, you let it (the engine) **** the can dry through one of the engine's smaller vacuum lines, hold the speed up as the engine will try to stall, then shut off the engine and let it sit for an hour longer if possible, then blow it out on the freeway with some spirited driving

The running lights are usually all on the same circuit. If only one is bad, then check the bulb and socket. If they are both good then check the wiring going to the socket. https://www.carcarekiosk.com/video/2007_BMW_X5_3.0si_3.0L_6_Cyl./fuse_engine/check

There are two things. The electrical wiring to the left rear signal light may be malfunctioned and in need of a replacement or a fuse must be bought and replaced.
