When removing alternator pulley to put on the replacement alternator for a Mercedes 300td, 1981, is the pulley nut reverse threads, or regular thread?

Should be regular thread, but you usually need an impact to remove it,

What could cause blue smoke from exhaust?

blue smoke is burning oil I gather that you let the engine idle and when you give it rpms that there is a cloud of blue smoke if that is the case it indicates that the valve stem seals are hard /failed and when the engine is at idle ( 15" mercury vacuum in manifold) the oil around the valves is sucked past the stem seals and into the combustion chamber AS you have restricted use of the machine (every 3 weeks ) it is not a great problem as when you are on the road it is not happening (Only at idle ) It is repairable without removing the head if you find an accredited service shop that has experience in the procedure.

Car lost power uphill with air on and was hard to start once. blue exhaust smoke when reved up otherwise runs good

Blue smoke is not good!! Piston rings are bad or valves. On a Mercedes it will cost you more than the car is worth at this point. Unless you have a sentimental attachment to the car and really really want to keep it., I would get rid of it. 123,000 mile is a great life for a 1989.

My 1985 Mercedes 300D will not shut off after turning the ignition off and removing the key

vacuum leak. You can start troubleshooting by finding the thin plastic tube that goes from the engine firewall into the inside of the car. Disconnect that on the engine side and plug it on the engine side with a golf t and tape. If this shuts the engine down with the key, there is a leak in one of your tubes inside of the car (door locks and trunk lock are all vacuum operated).

Car won't start when cold . . . i need to use starter fluid to start it . . . any suggetions?

1. Do not use starter fluid on a glow plug diesel engine. (explosive) 2. Most likely 1 or more of your glow plugs is out. They are not too expensive and are fairly easy to change. Facing the engine, look on the right side. There is a set of "plugs" with hoses, and a set of "plugs" with wires. You want to change the set of plugs with wires.

Where does the vaccum line from the battery go

Battery only has a drain line. It goes down the side of the battery and ends. Whether or not there was originally an overboard tube that was connected here, I don't know. You could install an overboard tube, but might be better to have a bottle to avoid corrosion.

Where is the trunk release

If you mean Remote trunk release, there isn't one. It's controlled by vacuum. If system works good, when you unlock the doors with the key or the inside door switch, it will unlock the trunk (if the button is in the unlock position). And vice versa.

1981 MB 300sd where is the back up light switch located anb how I can change my self please

It is located on the side of the transmission built into the neutral safety switch and unless you have worked under a car correctly before, I would advise against it...make sure you dont have any blown fuses or burned out bulbs that would cause the reverse lights to not work...best place I have found for MB info is this forum..registration is free and tech threads a plenty....yours is a W126 body Title goes here

Hi Carl this should be possible if it don't work out open the two engine mounts on top and lift the motor up a few inches. Regards Jim.

What the best way to remove seized head bolts

First try bashing the bolt head straight downwards. This may loosen the corrosion in the threads. Take care not to hit surrounding structures. Next try a large impact wrench (you can hire them) with a high strength socket which is a good fit. Take care the wrench is set to run in the undo direction. http://s244.photobucket.com/user/teawins05/media/IMG_3862.jpg.html

How do i replace oil drain seals from the turbo to the oil pan on a 1984 mercedes benz 300sd?

install the bottom half into the pan as far as it goes, the install the top half to it and the 2 bolts to bottom of the turbo. the slide the rubber grommet on the bottom section down into the oil pan until it is seated, next using a slip jaw pliers grab the bottom section and slide it straight up into the top pipe section which also the seals it into the bottom rubber grommet, I hope this helps.
