your problem may be in the serial /usb adaptor that you are using any reason why you cannot connect the usb cable from the printer directly to a usb port on the computer like any other printer

This could simply be old direct thermal labels. Direct thermal labels have a shelf life of about 1 year from the date of manufacture. Your software label template does not match the size label your printing on. Make sure your label size IE: 2.25" x 1.25" matches the template size in the software, then perform this calibration: TLP 2742 is printing blank labels

You need to make sure the media and ribbon are installed correctly, and then make sure the printer is calibrated. Once you verify the media is correct, power off the printer and then back on. It should feed a few labels. Then press the button to feed again to make sure it feeds only one. If it does, then the printer is set. Now, when you go to print, if it still acts up, you need to check either the driver settings or the software settings. Label size could be set incorrectly.
