My Sherwood RX-4109 sounds "quieter" and "muddier" than it previously did. Also the "click" when it turns on in quieter. Wondering what this could mean
Main board fault. Shorted component/s at its audio output section circuit. Most common fault is with its audio output transistors. If any one of them get shorted [collector to emitter short]; this kind of fault can occur. Check 2SD1510 / 2SB2510 transistor pair at this section circuit for short. If found shorted, check all the other components related to these transistors and make sure that all are good; otherwise, the replaced transistor too will get damaged in no time. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts.

Connecting Samsung TV to Sherwood Newcastle R 865 Receiver using optic cable.
The problem might lie with the TV itself. The optical input might be switched off. You can check if the signal is coming out of the TV. With the optical lead plugged into the TV and the TV on. But not plugged into the Amp. You should see a red light come out of the unconnected end. If you don't see that the socket is switched off at the TV end. It might come under sound in the menu, or options, or digital audio output. Or a combination leading to the other!
If you see an option for Dolby Digital, set that to on as well. Some HD TV channels use Dolby, but others don't. It will only come on with certain films and TV shows though, it should switch your receiver to the Dolby setting, just like DVD and Blue Ray discs do.
Why is there no output to right speaker?
Confirm that the audio balance is not set to the left but in the middle!
Swap speaker connections to make sure the problem doesn't follow the speaker indicating the wiring to the speaker or speaker is bad.
Need to confirm that the input to the selected device is OK. Swap input RCA Red and White connections from the source. If an optical confirm that the source balance if the setting is available is set to middle
On many upgrade receivers as this Sherwood there is a test feature that confirms with an audio beep the speaker balance and connections. Look for a "Test" button.
Beside swapping the speaker connections left to right swap the speakers between the A and B speakers. See image for connection detail.
