It could be bad door switch or loose door switch mount . There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.
The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly .
But If the microwave doesn't work at all , then It could be a problem with the power transformer or the power PCB . Or it could be just a fuse . You need to check first . If it's the fuse , then that will be easy to solve , you need only to replace it with new one . But if the problem is with the transformer or with the PCB , you need to take your microwave to the service for repairing .
CAUTION: A microwave oven is capable of giving you a serious electrical shock, even when it is unplugged. I strongly recommend you seek the assistance of an appliance repair technician when conducting any microwave oven repair .
Assuming there is power at the outlet, you would need to check the internal fuse and the thermostat associated with the magnetron.
It may possibly be a problem with the control circuit board, but we can help you with here that if so.
There
should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit
behind the
control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is
very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating
components.

Your internal cooling fan and turntable are run by the same relay on the circuit board on these.
The cooling fan prevents the magnetron from overheating, which it is doing now, which trips the magnetron thermostat, interrupting power until it cools back down.
It is vital that the
cooling fan runs, or the turntable and stirrer won't work, and magnetron will soon be destroyed.
We regularly repair such control
units for
customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a
week or so with a one-year guarantee.
If your cooling fan doesn't work its getting hot and shutting down, after it cools it will work again. The cooling fan will have to be replaced more than likely. You'll have to take microwave apart, the cabinet around the microwave can be removed it has several screws holding it to the frame. Make sure when you take the screws out you know where they go back because they may or may not be the same size all around. The most important thing is unplug the microwave and even with unplugged it still has stored electricity in the capacitors. The cooling fan may or may not plug in inside the microwave if it doesn't its no big deal just follow the wires from the fan to where they are terminated and disconnect. While you have the the cabinet off you also should check the door latches since you said the lights only work if the door is ajar if the door isnt lining up right that will cause different problems like the light not working and also could cause the cooling fan not to work.
well an educated guess would be a short or loose connection in a common thats shared between the two that could rattle loose when it so chooses.. without a wiring diagram it would be hard to guess more specifically where without laying hands upon it.. and for that you'd have to lower it to the countertop level and dismantle to test.. it could always turn out to be a bad board also, but thats usually a done deal and doesn't repair itself then break again.. best of luck, ttfn

You have a shorting
membrane keypad. If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.
So until it is repaired,
please leave it unplugged or leave the door
open when it's not in use, and please do not leave it running
unattended.
If you would like to
have us do this repair for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs, in this case $35, for a total of $74.95.
We
really need the entire control panel assembly - the plastic control
