I want to put an aol icon on my desk top
If you are able to access the application and don't already have an icon then you are likely starting the application from within your Windows Explorer. That said, right click on the .exe file that you use to start the application and then select "send to" and choose "Desktop". That will put a "short cut" on your desktop to the application start file.
How to restore my aol mail
Log in to your AOL account.
Open the "Recently Deleted" folder, which is on the left panel of the "Mail" window.
Check the box next to the message you want to recover by clicking once inside the box.
Click the "Restore" button.
Obtain data recovery software if you want to restore older emails not found in the "Recently Deleted" folder. Examples of such software include ePreserver Recovery, Data Recovery Pro and Instant File Recovery (see Resources). These and other similar programs recover emails by searching through the collection of previously opened email files 1-800-243-0019, which your computer caches as temporary Internet files.
Install and configure the software on your computer according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Is there a way to overcome being unable to view my emails
HI
You can do 2 things... in those emails you receive, at the bottom of those emails, there is an "unsubscribe" option. Click that and you can remove your name from this lists.
OR
You can create a new email account and do not publish it on sites you don't know or look fake.
