No synchronization when Outlook express is default mail program

When performing a HotSync operation with Outlook the following error message appears "The mail client cannot fulfill the request. Define Microsoft Outlook as the default for mail client." I have to change manually the default mail program from Outlook Express to Outlook to perform a HotSync operation. Outlook express is my default mail program. Every time I want to make synchronization I have to change manually my desktop defaults and back. I do not synchronize mails with the handheld. The conduit setting for Versamail is set to "Do Nothing". I uninstalled completely VersaMail, but still the problem persists: I keep getting the same error message and I cannot synchronize with MS Outlook while my desktop mail default is Outlook Express. Im asking your support for synchronization of the Palm with Microsoft Outlook without having to change each time my e-mail preferences. Please, help Thanks

Email synch is based on current MAPI preferences. The problem you have is that the VersaMail conduit assumes your mail client must be the MAPI default email client. You could adopt another profile in Outlook instead of OExpress which picks up the account you use in OE. This is the first instance of this problem I have ever heard of so I doubt if PalmOne would make a software change on this.

I can't email my projects from Platinum 16 because I use Yahoo mail not Outlook Express. I also have a Gmail account but I don't see any way to change the OE default. I have XP Pro.

To make Outlook Express Your Default Windows Email Program :
1.Make sure Outlook Express is not running.
2.Select Run... from the Start menu.
3.Type "msimn /reg" (excluding the quotation marks).
4.Hit Enter.Wait for, say, ten seconds for the process to finish. Nothing will appear on screen. Do not let that disturb you.
5.Launch Outlook Express.
6.Select Tools ' Options... from the menu.
7.Go to the General tab.
8.Click Make Default under Default Messaging Programs.Click OK

I am trying to export my messages from Outlook

I dunno but you might be better off just copying the outlook express data files from one computer to the next instead of trying to export.

I cannot sync my Palm Tungsten E with MS Outlook.

  1. Step 1 Install the Palm Tungsten software. This software is required in order to sync Palm Tungsten with Outlook Express. To install the software, place the CD-ROM in your PC and follow the on screen instructions.
  2. Step 2 Use the HotSync cable included with your Palm to plug into the USB port of your PC. You will then plug the other end of the cable into your Palm Tungsten.
  3. Step 3 Open the HotSync Manager program on your PC through the "Start" menu or clicking on the icon. You can manage the different programs available for synchronization through this program. Select Microsoft Outlook as one of the applications that you want synched onto your Palm Tungsten.
  4. Step 4 Turn on the Palm Tungsten. You will see a star icon on the menu of your PDA. Tap this star with your stylus to start syncing Microsoft Outlook Express. A dialog box will appear on your PC during the process to know the progress of the synchronization.
  5. Step 5 Unplug the cable from your PC and Palm Tungsten once the sync is completed. As the Palm resets, you will now notice that Microsoft Outlook Express is available on the PDA.

Outlook not synching

This is how I got it working. Don't use wireless sync software, someting is definitely buggy with it. Here is what I did to resolve sync errors: 1. Perform a hard reset on the Palm 2. Go to the Palmone folder on your hard drive (C:\Program Files|PalmOne. Look for the Backup folder. Rename this folder Backup Old. 3. Connect the Treo to your computer. 4. Right click the Hotsync icon in the taskbar and click Custom. Change the four Outlook conduits (Calendar, Contacts,Tasks,Memos) to Desktop overwrites Handheld. 5. Run a Hotsync with the Treo. It should sync without errors. If you need to install additional applications you can add them now

Just bought Zire 31 and won't hot sync Outlook Calendar, Contacts, Notes with the following log:

Sync fails with "too many open databases"

This is what I did to fix that error:

Hard-reset your Palm to erase all data (that usually involves pushing the small "reset" button on the back, then pressing the "power on" button until the device boots, and then pressing "up" to confirm the hard-reset)

After that, sync your palm. The sync software will ask if you want to use your existing profile or create a new one. Create a new one. Then the program will offer to sync your Outlook profile with your Palm. Click on "ok", and a message asking you to accept to sync your Outlook data with more than one profile will pop-up. Click on OK, again... and that's it!
