I just received my Fuj MX-1700 this weekend and am experimenting w/ my first digital camera. On the Fuji 1700 what settings can you suggest I play around with to get night time shots? Thanks

Use the manual set up ( the small camera icon with the "M" next to it. Play around with the flash settings and set your flast to night. Check out the manual on this feature. I just got my 1700 last week. The Halloween photos were a lot of fun. Its also my first digital camera and there is a lot to learn. I read every thing I could find on the web prior to my purchase. I felt the MX1700 was the best value. So far this camera has met or exceed all my expectiations.

Black-n-purple viewing screen my fuji s700 (s7000) camera

Sounds like a bad LCD as I had a similar experience with a different brand. The part itself is probably not very cheap... but if you have $120 you could get the same camera, referbished.

Fuji film mx1200 camera

Short of a manual, there's an excellent guide with pictures at
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/MX12/M12A.HTM

I haven't solved the cable problem yet, or know how to use it. I've ducked the need for it so far because I use a card reader which came with it's own software. I'm reviewing one I got from dcables.net (their DCRO 10) but it came with the wrong serial connection end for my computer, and hasn't been a priority yet to figure out how to adapt it.

If you can identify the software, I'm happy to look for it on my computer. I may have installed it when I got my Fuji MX-1200, but just haven't used it. I'm not even sure you need it. With the camera connected by serial cable to the PC, the PC may recognize the camera as an external device and allow you to drag and drop images from the camera to the PC.

Great camera though and easy to keep with you.

Many of the photos at my evolving Google web album page at http://picasaweb.google.com/wolfsphotoden were shot using the Fuji. "Ortega Park" and "Dottie's Back Porch" are exclusively Fuji MX-1200; also a good number of the "Sea Cliff" building shots (not the long distance ones or the bird/vegetation shots).

Lens cover jammed open.

No send it back they are the only people that will deal
More over - the likely cost will be very near the cost of a new high spec camera.

MX1700 - NEED HELP

First, ensure that both computer and camera are turned-off when you connect the two. Next, ensure the your serial port is not servicing another application.... In my case the Hot-Synch Manager for my Palm Organizer conflicted with Picture Shuttle. I simply exited Hot-Synch Manager and the Picture Shuttle worked as promised. I hope your fix is as easy...

Night shots

Hi: Well, I think you have a problem because you cannot take still shots at night :) Not even with the best SLR. The camera as to get light to make the picture. My advices are, not only use the tripod but when you shoot, but set the timer function so you don't touch the camera when it shoot's and use a high time of exposure like 2 or 5 seconds depending on the subject... Make several experiences with low resolution and when you suceed, make it with a higher resolution ;) Regards
