Record button is stuck and cannot be pushed down.

Make sure the tape is not protected or broken tap on bottom of tape

In my Sony TCM-5000EVI have a very low level motor noise in play back mode that is independant of the volume control. I have double grounded all ground points. This noise is not getting into recordings...

If you disconnect motor for a while, do you still hear noise? Since this player is 1981 model so hard to get schematics.

Won't record using flat mike but will with external mike

Had Quote of $80 and 4 weeks from local repairers, so bought external mike for $10 and it works but would still like to fix it properly.

How do I erase a tape that has already been used?

Try press Rewind & Record and if does not erase I recommend to get a tape eraser from tvps

This model was discontinued about 3 years ago with no replacement. The closest model to this is the Marantz PMD201.
