I am trying to replace a handeset on my E5640 answering system. I have followed the procedures to deregister the existing handsets but it will not accept the base code for the last one. The handset I am trying to replace is inoperable so it can't be deregistered. Is there a hard reset to delete all existing handsets from the base?

  • blayendecker Jun 25, 2011

This information is straight from the manual which I have and already followed the procedures. I assume the base still thinks there are four phones registered. I need to know if there is a way to do a hard reset on the base to make sure all previous handsets are de-registered. If I try to add a handset now, I get an error tone and I can't setup the four phones I want to register.

  • blayendecker Jun 29, 2011

I am not satisfied with the responses as they have not helped my problem. Please do not charge my credit card or if it has been charged please refund the charge. It is my understanding that I must be completely satisfied and that is not the case.

    Thank you.

  • Your telephone can accommodate up to four cordless handsets. You can add new handsets (Model E560-2, sold separately) at any time, but each must be registered with the base before use.
  • The handset provided with your telephone is automatically registered as Handset 1.
  • Additional handsets will be assigned numbers in the order they are registered (2, 3 or 4). You can register a maximum of four handsets.
To de-register all handsets
• Unplug the power supply from the base unit.
• Remove all handsets from the charge cradles and base.
• Plug in the power supply while pressing and holding the HANDSET LOCATOR button.
• Continue pressing HANDSET LOCATOR until the IN USE and CHARGING indicators are lit (this could take up to 10 seconds).
• Release the HANDSET LOCATOR button.
• All handsets will display: ENTER BASE ID: XXXXXXXXXX
Once the base indicators turn off (up to 30 seconds), the handsets have been de-registered from the base, and can now be re-registered.

To re-register a handset:
• Make sure your handset batteries are properly installed and charged.
• Your handset will display "ENTER BASE ID".
• Enter the 15-digit Base ID number from the bottom of the base unit.
• Press SELECT to accept the new code and complete re-registration.

To re-register a handset to a new base unit:
• Make sure your handset batteries are properly installed and charged.
• Unplug the old base unit. Your handset will display "SEARCHING...".
• Install the new base unit by plugging it into an electrical outlet and phone jack.
• Press and hold the SELECT key until the handset displays "ENTER BASE ID".
• Enter the new 15-digit Base ID number from the bottom of the new base unit.
• Press SELECT to accept the new code and complete re-registration. The handset is now registered to the new base.

Hi well you do indeed have a problem, and you are correct in that yes that non-functioning handset is the one causing all the problems as it cannot be "De-registered".
Please find below your user manual, now download and have a look in the manual to see if indeed there are any "Reset" buttons on the base station, sometimes on some models there is a reset button that when activated, ie: held in for a few seconds while removed from the power, this will flush out all the old settings and allow one to reprogram it all again, this no doubt will sort out you problem. Sometimes it is a series of buttons that you hold down in an order to effect the same thing.
Otherwise you are going to have to fix that "bad" handset and use it to do it?

How to use additional handsets with my VTECH DS6251-2.

Unfortunately, the old handsets may not be compatible with the new base. The DS6251-2 base only communicates with the DS6250 accessory handset. See the accessory list here: https://www.vtechphones.com/store/pd/4158/DS6251-2-2-Line-2-Handset-Cordless-Phone-with-Answering-System-Smart-Call-Blocker . If the old handsets have been deregistered from the previous base unit, place a handset in the cradle on the base. Wait to see if the handset is registered. Alternately, press and hold Page until you see Registering. Release the Page button. Then press Quiet/# (below 9) on the handset. Wait for the handset to be registered.

To deregister handsets from the DS6251 base, press and hold Page. You'll see Registering Please Wait followed by Deregister all devices? At this point, release the Page button. Then press and release Page or the soft key for Yes.

I hope this helps. These are shown in the manual for the accessory handset. The manual is on available on the accessory handset page: https://www.vtechphones.com/store/pd/4184/DS6250-2-Line-Accessory-Handset-for-DS6251-series-phones . This will deregister all handsets associated with that base station. Handsets can then be added back into the system by entering the base station ID into the handsets one by one. The base station ID is on the bottom of the base station itself.

Two sets Uniden phones with base, second handset: incompatible?

I had the same problem with a Uniden 3355 handset and 2355 base. With the new handset I pressed "Menu" and selected "System Reset". I then Selected "Deregister HS" and followed the prompts.
Once this was complete, I returned to "System Reset" and selected "Replacing Base". Following the prompts, when it said "Register Handset" I put it in the base of the 2355, and within a minute it had registered, so both handsets used the base of the 2355!

Handheld won't communicate with the base

i have the same problem and it has happened infrequently several times. you probably have to deregister the handset and re-register it and rest the base and handheld to communicate since my model is different from yours there may be differences in how to go about it but for my model the suggestion is as follows:

go to www.uniden.com for customer support here is a direct link to some frequentlt asked questions http://www.mycusthelp.com/uniden/supportfaq.asp?sSessionID=&lstFilter_a=&lstFilter_b=&lstFilter_c=&txtCriteria=hanset+won%27t+connect+to+base&optcond=2&iStartCount=1

Try resetting the phone system by using the following steps:

1) Enter the "System Reset" menu, then "Deregister HS" submenu.
2) Press volume/up or down arrow keys to select the handset ID to be de-registered from the list, then press the OK soft key.
3) Press the OK soft key. You will hear a confirmation tone. When de-registration is complete, "Deregistration Complete" appears.

4) After de-registering the handset, move to "Replacing the Base Setting" below. When you go through the deregister procedure if you get "out of range", That is okay. Go ahead and go to the next step.

Replacing the Base Setting
1) Enter the "System Reset" menu, then "Replacing Base" submenu. "Do you want to replace Base?" appears.

2) Press the OK soft key. You will hear a conformation tone. The base information will be deleted. When replacing the base is complete, "Please Register" appears, register the handset to the new base.

If your handset is reading out of range. Check the the main base and make sure you unit has power. This can be done by placing the handset in the main base to see if the charge in use light comes on.
If your main base isn't getting power please make sure the ac adapter is plugged in and is warm to the touch. If not the ac adapter would be damaged.
To resolve out of range follow the below steps.
Press and hold the end key.
Press and hold the # key.

Release the keys and select replacing base and press select.
You will see Replace base?
Select Yes and press select.
Now place the handset on the base and it should register to the base and allow for calls to be made.
