I am running Unix Tru64 5.0 on Compaq Alphastation XP1000. The computer does not boot and does not display anything and does not beep. The power supply works and some LEDs are on on the logic board and the CPU and chips become hot. Replacing the VGA card did not help.

It isn't a Processor problem

(Or is there a series of beeps, and the fan is running wide open?)

[ Just curious. Call it a poll, if you will.....
Did you follow Anti-Static Precautions, and did you Thoroughly clean the Processor, and bottom the Heatsink; plus correctly apply, fresh new Thermal Paste? Reply in a Comment ]

Where did you get the Start-Up repair from?

What does the router have to do with this?

Do you get any BIOS Beep Codes?

You have another 'Compaq processor'.
Do you have another KNOWN to be good, Compatible Power Supply also?

(Computer turns on does not = Boot.
When the computer boots it means Windows is running.
Power Supply turns on is also mistaken for computer turns on.
No it didn't. The Power Supply turned on, is all,

I'm having problems with my compaq sr5000 desktop.

Is there any message that appears when you turn the computer on? Does anything post to the monitor during the boot process? Normally if the Video Card goes bad and the monitor works you will get a No Signal message on the Monitor. So you are so sure the monitor works, huh?

Since you went inside the computer check and make sure you pushed the Video Card (where the monitor plugs into the back of the computer) into the slot all the way.

Maybe your Power Supply is not working. When you press the power button do the fans start running and you hear the disk drive spinning? Just because you see a light at the the power button or on the motherboard does not mean the Power Supply is working correctly. I just changed one that did that.

Remove the Power Cord, Open the Case and remove one of thememory chips. Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x onit with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the nextmemory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set itaside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If itboots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and putit into the open memory chip slot and try booting. You didn't by chance remove the Heat Sink and CPU while you were removing the fan did you? If you did, you probably need to apply a fresh coat of Thermal Past between the Heat Sink and CPU.

StorStation fails to boot up - blue screen of death

The beeping alarm could have been overheating. You could try taking the HDD out and putting it in a workstation to run chkdsk on it. Incidently what operating system does this model use? I have an FSV-E1 which seems to run some Unix type system.
