this problem is usually fixed easily. this commonly occurs when print head is clogged. I use a facial tissue and alcohol to clean the head with the ink cartridge in an upside down position (if possible) then i print one or two test prints to get it back to normal.

Printout Has White or Dark Lines Across It
• The print head nozzles may need cleaning. • Select a higher Quality Option or Print Quality and turn off High Speed mode in the Windows or Macintosh OS X 10.5 or 10.3 to 10.4 printer software. • Make sure the paper Type or Media Type setting matches the paper you loaded. • Make sure the printable side of the paper is face-down. It's usually brighter or whiter. • The ink cartridges may need replacing. • With Macintosh OS X 10.5 or 10.3 to 10.4, try using Automaticmode. • Align the print head. • The printer won't operate properly if it's tilted or at an angle. Place it on a flat, stable surface that extends beyond the base in all directions.

for most printers there should be a print cd label option in the Software that comes with the printer
install the Software and go to label settings >>CD label

i have same model need to clean head of catridge then used air spray to clean heads of printer then install back again if this don't work then need to get new cartridge

To resolve this issue, you need to print a nozzle check pattern and then determine if print head cleanning is need.
To print nozzle check, follow the steps below.

1. Turn off the Artisan Series and your computer, if connected.
2. Disconnect any connected USB cables.
3. Load plain paper in the main tray.
4. Press the On button to turn the Artisan 800 Series on again.
5. Press Setup.
6. Select Maintenance.
7. Select Nozzle Check.
8. Press Start.
9. The Artisan Series begins printing the nozzle check pattern.
10. If there are no gaps, select Finish Nozzle Check.
    If there are gaps, select Head Cleaning.

If the nozzle check pattern page prints correctly, the problem may be with your software settings, the interface cable, or your computer.

When you print photos, in Preferences you have to set up the quality of the print to either Best or Photo whichever is the highest one in the list. Hopefully this will increase the quality of the printing, although this is not a photo printer. And you are correct, it's a printer problem.

Try changing the print paper type to something other than plain paper. Use the matte paper setting, or the photo glossy. The printer will lay down more ink at these specialty settings.
