Take the laptop to a repair shop. Probably your CPU is overheating from a fan failure so the notebook shuts down automatically. The techs there can change/check the fan and replace it.

Check the underneath of the laptop, there should be several access panels, remove these and look for fans, clear them of any dust you can see, the main fan should be blowing through a heatsink (lots of small fins) try to get to the part between the fan and heatsink as sometimes you can get a lot of dust build up there.

Presario cq60 the power will just cut off. it seems like it gets hot very quickly. it says before loading that the internal battery is low. is there another battery other than the one that can come out...

if you flip it over and remove the hard drive cover you will see the internal battery...that needs to be replaced if you are getting that warning.......if its getting hot it possibly needs to just be cleaned out (blown out), yet there is a overheating issue on various HP (Compaq) models where the video chip gets hot and the unit shuts down or has problems booting up

My Laptop keeps turning off... It is plugged in, and will work for a few minutes and then just randomly shut off completely...

Hi,

Check your CPU fan, it may be clogged with dust/lint. Many times laptops do that due to overheating. Get a blower or Dust Remover (compressed Air) to clean that out

Abrupt shutdowns

Is it very hot?

If so Tkae compressed air and blow it into all the vents on the computer. You are trying to loosen dust. Get it all loose possible near the vents then **** out all dust you cna with a vacuum cleaner.

This should stop the laptop from overheating and shutting down.

Overheat

Yes you could try a laptop "Cooler Pad" that may help, either that or go into the BIOS and set the temperature "Cut Off" point higher by say 10 - 20 degrees. Ensure the laptop has an air flow all around it at all times. Clean out your exhaust port, of dust etc.

the overheating could happend for the following reasons:
-check that the fan is working and the vents are not blocked. do not put the laptop on the sofa or the bed. glass may also increase the temperature.
-check that the bios is up to date. maybe the fan is not working fast enough
-are you playing a lot of games or using an application(like video editing) that uses the graphics card intensively?
