does it feel loose and wiggly? A lever should feel firm as it works. If it does you'll need to get inside. Typically these levers have a cam on the other end that activates the presser foot bar. If it is loose it could have slipped off the part that makes that happen. Also the part on the presser foot bar can be broken but you won't be able to tell until you get in there.

Take your time and take pictures as you remove things. safeguard the parts... Good luck, I hope it's just loose.

Replace the speed selector switch, if you can still get one...They were prone to oxidation caused by gasses emitted from the rubber foot close by... The Pioneer remedy was change switch AND rubber foot for a neoprene one

Chances are the belt is slipping. Therefore ridding up and down, causing the speed problems.

is the wire loose on either end? sometimes the electrical plugs can cause noise due to resistance, so trying different outlets might help too

More than likely your RCA's need to be replaced. There is no need to open it up, as the ground wire rarely every comes loose. It's held down by a screw & soldered to the circuit board. Unless you pulled on the ground wire.

There are only 3 issues which can cause this:

1) Technics Tonearm - Check the 4 prongs inside the tonearm. Make sure they are all clean (shiny gold), and all protruding the same distance. There are springs behind these prongs, and often times they do come loose over time or overtightening.

2) Technics RCA Cables - This is more than likely the culprit.

3) Cartridge/Headshell - swap out with your good unit. If it works, then your good. Just replace cartridge

With the exception of #3, the other 2 will require assistance from a qualified service technician, otherwise you could cause more damage to your turntables.

are you talking about the tonearm or a lever at the power switch?

This is a common problem. If you have another 1200 turntable, switch out the platters and see if that fixes the problem. Usually, the problem does not carry over.

There is nothing to screw or tighten. You can install a new SPINDLE - and it should fix it. But might not be necessary if you just swap your platters out.
