I'm using the serato dj software program.I had my

You check it by trying a regular vinyl record to see if it is the cartridge. Make sure you have the input on phono for vinyl and on aux if you are using serrato. If the turntables are older try cleaning the contacts on the tone arm where the cartridge goes. make sure it is grounded properly also. Try plugging the turntable that is not working in where the working one is to check the channel on the mixer.

1210 mk5 poor sound

If the cartridge is good and your wiring is good. Then it's either got to be a fault on your amp, or there is a pre-amp in the deck itself faulty. Double check that the amp is working, amps have a pre-amp for record decks, they cause trouble a lot.
If you touch the wires that connect to the cartridge, you should get a buzz on either channel (remove them from the cartridge first). If you don't get a decent buzz, and you know that the amp is working fine, then there's something inside the deck causing the problem. In which case take the bottom off and take a look inside.

Buzzing from one Technics MK5 1200

More than likely your RCA's need to be replaced. There is no need to open it up, as the ground wire rarely every comes loose. It's held down by a screw & soldered to the circuit board. Unless you pulled on the ground wire.

There are only 3 issues which can cause this:

1) Technics Tonearm - Check the 4 prongs inside the tonearm. Make sure they are all clean (shiny gold), and all protruding the same distance. There are springs behind these prongs, and often times they do come loose over time or overtightening.

2) Technics RCA Cables - This is more than likely the culprit.

3) Cartridge/Headshell - swap out with your good unit. If it works, then your good. Just replace cartridge

With the exception of #3, the other 2 will require assistance from a qualified service technician, otherwise you could cause more damage to your turntables.

Skipping

That is correct, your tonearm needs to be replaced.

By adjusting that top screw on the tonearm, you only made the problem worse. It's very hard to realign that screw, as those are machine calibrated, and once tampered with, almost impossible to get back to exact factory settings. We recommend replacement of the entire Technics tonearm.

Needle skipping & not pushing down

There should be an "anti-skate" adjustment to control the arm moving across the record. It is possible that lubrication has stiffened up as well. This unit may need a general overhaul/cleaning.

Hi,

Please re-check all your other equipment, as its highly unlikely to be the 2 turntables at fault, let me know how you got on.

Needle for Technics mk5

Ok, the needle is just a small portion of everything required to get up and running. Here is a diagram of what your going to need:

c8b204d.jpg
The stylus, also known as the Needle, is what you are asking for. As you can see it's only 1 of 3 items you need:

1) Headshell
2) Cartridge
3) Stylus / Needle

If you already have 1 and 2, and you need to replace #3, then we would need to know what model #2 is?

You'll need what's called a STANDARD Mount cartridge, (aka Half-inch). In addition, that cartridge will need to be mounted to a Standard Mount Headshell.

Here is a collection of Standard Mount Cartridges that will fit this model.

Try to stay away from those all-in-one configurations that look like the Concorde airplane. Over time they will damage your tonearm due to a poor design flaw. Stick with a set up similar to the image posted. You can't go wrong, and you'll have more options.

I didn't touch the pitch adj control, i didn't

This is an issue with the main drive circuits. You have what we call the 'washing machine' affect.

Only a qualified technican can repair this for you. Not too costly, if the tech knows what to look for. If not, then he will spend many wasted hours trying to find the damaged circuits. Make sure you explain the issue to them and ask if they've fixed it before.

Help: Mk 5 Tone Arm

Tone arm skipping/not moving on especially at end of record

The issue is with your tonearm, and not your tracking. You probably have slight damage to the tonearm bearings, which will cause this. There are 2 options... you can try to adjust the pivoting screw at the top of the tonearm ... However, WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS, because once you mess with this screw, it's EXTREMELY difficult to get it back to the correct setting, as this screw is machine calibrated at the factory. So, we only recommend this when you have no other choice, or it's an emergency (the middle of a set).

You can view a video on how to do this, by going here - http://djprolab.com

Eventually, your going to have to have your Technics Tonearm replaced. This should be done by a professional, as it is not an easy replacement.

Slow start

There is something wrong with your drive system. Unfortunately, you will have to have a service professional take a look at this.

More than likely one of the Integrated Circuits (IC's) have gone bad and will need to be replaced - a common issue on the newer models.

Speed regulator.

First and foremost, are you located in the U.S.? If so, make sure your unit's voltage is set to 115V rating. The switch is located under the turntable platter. All you need is a flat head screwdriver to turn it to the proper voltage. If it's on 220V, you need to change it. If you are not in the U.S., or it is already set @ the proper voltage rating, your problem could be one or many issues with the drive, and pitch control. There are various resistors, capacitors, IC's and variable resistors, which control the drive. Any one of these could have gone bad on you. Do you have a runaway operation, or is it doing that back and forth movement? In either case, this cannot be self repaired, and you will have to take it to a qualified service center for repair. Cost will run you anywhere from $60-120 - if they go higher than that, they either do not know what they are doing, or they are trying to pull one over on you. We work on these on a daily basis, and should cost you more than that. However, prices do depend on where you live (we are in NYC). Good luck!
