I have a Whirlpool Gold Conquest model number GS6SHEXNL00 (manufactured 10/04) side by side refrigerator with ice and water in the freezer door. The ice maker is working and does fill the ice bin. The water dispenser does work. The lights on the outside of the door do work. When the ice dispenser is depressed no ice comes out. This is the same for both crushed and cubed. When the ice bin is empty there is no indication that the mechanism is active on the inside of the bin. It appears that there is no power to the rotary / grinder portion of the ice dispenser. If this an item that can be self repaired or does it require a service technician?

yea! I have been without cubes for 2 years. I slid out the tray, found the lever in the back where the rod went in, pulled it down, reinserted the ice tray, and IT WORKED! At first I thought I broke the lever, because I had to hold it down with a knife while I was inserting the tray, but it just must have been stuck. I am soooo happy!

Behind the ice bucket is a metal housing that holds the auger motor and solenoid.  The solenoid is bad.  When you go for cubed ice that solenoid should pull up the metal rod on the ice bucket so full cubes will come out.  First check to make sure the metal rod on the ice bucket isn't somehow caught under the solenoid and not letting if move up and down.  You can take out the ice bucket and press for cubed ice.  You should hear a loud clunk noise.  If not then you know the solenoid is not working.

First pull out the ice bucket and close the door.  Set for cubed ice.  Press the button for ice to come out and listen for a loud clunk noise.  That is the sound of the solenoid.  You can open the door, hold the light switch and press the button and watch for the solenoid moving up and down.  Solenoid is at the back of the freezer in a little square opening where the rod on the ice bucket goes into.  If that solenoid is moving ok then put the bucket back in while the solenoid is in the down position and cubes should work.  If solenoid is not working then it will need to be replaced.  Let me know what you find.

funny you asked this question i just had this same problem this week at a customers home. you need the electronic control board located in the compressor compartment behind the refrig. it is mounted in the white box on the left hand rear corner. the whirlpool part number is 2304095 and it is around 175.00 i'm not sure who a local part supplier around you would be if all else fails you could get thru sears..
