We attached emachine to tv with avi cord, windows starts to load, sound works, then screen goes black. how can we get this to fix? (also have emachine hooked to a computer monitor as well)
When this PC is connected to the TV, what is the property settings for the videos screen resolution? You may need to bring the resolution to 800x600 or 640x480.

Sounds like a video card, cable problem, or monitor issue. I would first start with trying to replace the video cable from the desktop to the monitor. If the issue persists try connectiong the desktop to another monitor, or TV if you have a newer tv. (most tv's now how a VGA or DVI input on them) If that does not resolve the issue it would most likely be the video card. you can pick these up for pretty cheap. they are really easy to install.
I can help you with that problem, its simple just pull the video in and video out cord from the tv and blow on the cords to get the dust and dirt from out of it then plug it back in.
1) Boot your PC 2) when the grub menu appears, use the down arrow to get to the menu option listed as (rescue system) 3) when the text-based menu appears, choose a menu option that gets you to the root shell, then following the instructions mentioned in this link: http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/black-screen-while-starting-x-window.html. Debian instructions will work for Ubuntu.
i would say you may have video card issues. these computers that come from dell and gateway usually dont have a nividia graphics card. my best advice is to take this computer back and get a new one if this is the case because you will find it hard to play many other high end video games. it sorrta sucks but nividia and avi have a clench on video games and their graphics
It sounds like you have corrupted drivers. Remove the TV card drier and the Nvidia crd driver, reload the Nvida driver and the reload the TV card driver in order. The problem should go away.
From what you say, I'll assume you see stuff on the monitor like the BIOS info, and the Windows splash screen. Then it goes black. This happens when Windows loads the video drivers for your video card. Up until that point, you are using generic VGA drivers. I would guess the drivers are corrupt and the video card just stops working when it tries to access them. You'll need new drivers for your card (you'll need to determine that--you can ask me directly by clicking on my name if you need help there). Then you'll need to start your computer in safe mode and remove the video card from the device manager. Depending on the directions you have for your video card, you may have to tell the computer not to install drivers when you restart your computer, but run the install program first.
You're video settings will be within Advanced Settings. You're manual does not show any bios menu's. I'm sure the heading Advanced will be listed at the top of one of you're menu's. You may not be able to disabe you're onboard display but you will be able to change display order & that is what you want to do. If you're system still just sits there. Power off the PC & unplug the power cord. Remove the cmos/bios battery, (Use a flat tip screw driver to help you to pop it out). Wait about 15 seconds & pop it back in. Plug the power cord back in & power up you're system. Enter the bios & try again. Change the order of the video. Save & exit. Windows should load. Rather than installing you're current CD video software, go online & download the most current display software. Other software to install DirectX 9.0c found at microsoft. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en
If you mean the monitor is fine during the Windows booting process and then just as your about to go into Windows goes black then do this...
Start the computer
When the bios screen goes start pressing F8
A Windows Startup screen will appear
If you see the Windows Logo (the loading one) then hit reset and try again
At the Windows Startup page, select Safe Mode and press enter twice.
Windows will now load. Go into Device Manager (Start-Settings-Control Panel-System-Device Manager)
Select the video card, and uninstall it.
Restart Windows
Reinstall your video card using the Installer package (if it's ATI or nVidia)
If this dosn't work, then post back and we will try something else
