Considering
the amplifier specifications, that can be checked in this catalog: http://phaseonedist.com/Car%20Audio/Catalogs/2011%20Planet%20Audio.pdf the
maximum RMS power delivered per channel is 1300 W @ 2 ohms, for a total 2600 W. Although
this "2 ohms" specification refers to the impedance and not
resistance of the speakers, for a quick practical calculation, let's
assume they are equivalent. So, for the given data, the maximum
current flowing through each speaker would be: P = R x I²
1300 = 2 x
I² I² = 1300
/ 2 = 650 I = ?650 I = 25,5 A
per channel So, both
channels would be requiring a current flowing from the amplifier to
ground of around 51 A.
Considering
that the rest of the amplifier circuit uses some power for its own
functioning and part of it is also dissipated in the form of heat,
let's make a guess that it need some 10% more more current, what
would give us some 56 Amps being drawn from the car battery/generator
power system. As you will be using it inside a car, let's assume the
temperature under the hood can be around 60 ?C and as the car is not
that big, we will not need to consider voltage drop in the cable.
The
ampacity chart for AWG wires and cables
(http://wiki.xtronics.com/index.php/Wire-Gauge_Ampacity)
indicate us that an AWG #6 wire would do the trick, for both the
positive and negative leads. If you want to give an extra safety
margin, you could use AWG #4 cable, but I think that would not be
necessary. Hope this
info can help you!
Here are your specs. RMS 900 Watts Nominal and Max 1300 on 2 Channel @ 2 Ohms.
4 Gauge should do fine but if you like to feed the beast go with 2 gauge.
Looks like going rate is $110 on Amazon or elsewhere.
If it attains the RMS wattage it would be a good amp. I like monoblocks but
you will pay more. I looked into Tri-Mode and it is straight forward but people
are having problems figuring it out. With your 2 speaker operation you should
avoid the issues others are having.
Good luck and remember, rearview mirrors were meant to fall off!
Mine: JL 1800A monoblock into 2-JL 12" W3's in series for low bass 20-80 Hz; Lanzar Vibe 266 bridged into 2-12" Memphis in series for mid bass 40-200m Hz. 2 guage wire to mononblock-250 amp fused at battery, 4 guage to Vibe w/250 amp at battery.
