Rotel Receiver RSX-1067

Rotel RSX 1067 is a good and powerful unit. But as stated over time heat and vibration will cause issues in these big A/V receivers.
I have repaired many, and for the most part it is solder connections on the power supply board feed-throughs and such. Loss of voltages to the digital board, or blown outputs caused by improper speaker wiring and or loads. All of the above is repairable but only with a very knowledgeable and person used to repairing these units. It is not for the DIY weekend warrior.

Normally when sound disappear, this was cause by some grounded wire inside or some connection is lessen. That is why when changing the channel sound come up sudden change in voltage and then disappear when the voltage drop down to normal state.

so loss connection in some areas where the cable and dvd where connected. try to check it. if symptom persist, another is grounded connection. you have to put and connect wire from any metal of your stuff and then directly connect to the ground.

To troubleshoot of what stuff got an error you have to disconnect DVD player and the rotel receiver to isolate which one got an error.

The problems you are describing are typical of a DSP board or digital board problem (same board, referred to as DSP or digital board). Sometimes these type of failures can be repaired by reflowing the solder on some of the IC's on that board. It would require excellent soldering skills. I repair these type of units on a daily basis and have been for the last 18 years, so I know what I am talking about. Your problem will be a very difficult one to isolate, even by a very good technician. The digital boards are the hardest to troubleshoot. With an O-scope you can see the data when troubleshooting, but most times you can not tell if the data is good or if it is corrupt. This makes isolating the problem very hard unless the data is just missing or riding on an imporper voltage level.

I am sorry to tell you, it will not be an easy fix for you, nor will it be for a repair center. If a repair center can get a new board for you, it wold be the surest fix, but the boards for audio equipment are very rare.

Your best bet is to take it to a repair center and hope that they can restore proper operation by either reflowing the solder on what ever IC they may think is causing the problem or be able to get the part and replace it. There is just no way to know for sure what part is causing the problem without troubleshooting the unit with the proper test equipment.

Your speakers are not causing this problem, and none of the other devices connected to the unit are causing it either.

I work at an authorized service center for brands like Pioneer, Kenwood, Denon, Marantz, Onkyo, NAD, Panasonic, Samsung, and the list goes on, but not for Rotel. It is not one of the more popular brands for surround sound receivers.

I wish I could tell you of something that would fix your unit, but I don't think this will not be one of those rare occasions when resetting the unit or anything like that will help.

I will help you further if you would like, but I am not sure there is really anything that anybody here can do to get your Rotel working properly again considering the symptoms you described.

Loose connection or cold solder and cleaning problem this is the main caused of no sound..Cold solder issues - each component is soldered into small holes on the printed circuit board which in turn connects said component to the other components. Due to time, heat, use, some solder joints would be cracked or loose. It is possible that the cold solder is still minimally connected (hanging by a thread). When the receiver turns on heat would be generated which would be sufficient to further loosen up the solder joint to the point it no longer provides electrical contact. Jarring the unit creates movement inside enough to re establish the contact, sometime good enough sometimes not enough.

Again, since the unit still operates (sometimes) then it is highly probable that there are no defective components. As you have surmised, it is possibly a loose connection, solder joints are "connections" except that molten soldering lead is used to attach/connect the component to the board, "loose connection" in this sense is equal to "cold solder".

Again on the assumption of no defective parts, then seeking a more experienced buddy for the soldering might be to your advantage. This is of course in addition to the possible electrical hazards when repairing....

you can use alternate audio input/output, due to coupler issue sound might not work a particular channel.

The rotal reciver is on the way out to the bin ,,,i chucked mine out and got a new one and was all good again i had same problems thats all i have to say and i dont think there is a fix to that
