Tried that now have display flashing "door locked", time is displayed, door keeps trying to lock every 30 seconds or so and all functions are locked out not even timer works

  • freewheel266 Feb 17, 2011

The door locked display flashes and the door lock keeps trying to lock every minute and all functions of the oven and the kitchen timer are disabled, what can I do that won't cost an arm and leg?

  • freewheel266 Feb 18, 2011

This worked thanks, but it only worked after I held the door light button (that also controls the door lock mechanism) with the door open for more than 3 minutes.

The F90 error code is a door lock code. There are a couple of steps that you can take to try and clear the code. Do the following:

1) Unplug the range and wait for one minute.

2) Plug the range back in and turn it on.

3) Hold the door in and start a self clean cycle.

4) Wait for 2 minutes and then cancel the self clean cycle.

5) Do not let the door go until the door lock light goes out.

If that procedure does not clear the error code then you may have to get a Kenmore repair tech to take a look at the unit. There are a number of electronic fixes mentioned in their repair manual, but you would have to have the proper tools and training to run through those procedures. If there is any warranty left on the unit you can of course have the repair paid for. If not, then any repair shop should be able to give you a rough estimate on the cost of repair.

Thank you for the opportunity to assist you in resolving your issue. Should you need further information or assistance please do not hesitate to let us know.

If the procedure that I posted to you does not clear the error display there are a number of repairs that their service manual suggest must be undertaken to resolve and clear the error display. These include checking specific circuits, electronic, and physical items on the oven, as well as replacing specific items. I strongly recommend against trying these repairs unless you have the experience, tools, and training to do this correctly and safely. Here are the next steps that the service manual advises you take:

    1) Replace the Motor Door Latch Assembly if necessary.

    2) Check the wiring between EOC

I got the P90 error cooking Thanksgiving dinner when I attempted to engage the lock so my toddler couldn't open the range and burn himself. The lock failed to engage, as the controlling servo was seized, but the lock's failure threw the P90 error up and disabled my stove, which was not an option with a half baked Thanksgiving dinner in the oven... Use this repair if you find yourself in a similar situation, your mileage will vary. I'm not a repair man, just handy and technically inclined.

Unplug your stove and pull it away from the wall so you can access the rear.

Looking at the back of your stove, you'll see that there are two pieces of silver metal which cover the internal electronics (one for the top where the controls are, one on the bottom which covers where the electrical pigtail inlets). Remove both panels, and under the larger, lower panel, at the very top center you'll find a round servo motor with a control arm attached to it which extends to the door locking mechanism.

If you remove the two screws holding this servo motor to the back of the oven, you will then be able to slide it off the control arm.

- If your oven is stuck in the locked position, you can manually push the rod forward to disengage the lock at this point.

To reset the locking mechanism, the toggle switch on the servo must engage in it's regular cycle to clear the error. Plug the oven back in and being careful not to touch any of the exposed wires/connectors, press and hold the door lock button until the servo tries to activate. If it doesn't rotate of it's own accord, you can gently assist it by putting rotational pressure on the black plastic disk on the top. You'll see as it rotates it engages a lever toggle switch, which is what tells the control board what status the lock is in. Activate the locking mechanism until the hole which the door lock arm attaches is in the forward position (closest to the front of the stove). This will let the oven know the door is unlocked.

Reassemble and test lock. If it works, great. If the servo will not function on it's own and causes another fault, it will need replaced. If you disassemble the servo and manually rotate it to the unlocked position again, and reassemble it, you will at least be able to use your stove so long as you don't try to lock it. .

Hi,

F90 error code means the door unlock time exceeded.
First cut off the breaker to the unit, wait a few minutes, turn the breaker back on, and the unit resets itself.
If this doe not works then you need to replace the door look mechanism.

Hope this helps.

Shane

F90 Err on Kenmore Elite Gas Range 790.3670 How do I get rid of the error?

the F90 fault indicates that the maximum time allowed for oven door unlock was exceeded. The control attempted to unlock the door. The door lock motor or mechanism failed to unlock the door within the maximum amount of time it is allowed to be energized by the control board. It is unlikely that you will be able to reset this fault code. You can try to completely disconnect electrical power and leave it off for 5 minutes. After reconnecting power, the fault code will probably reappear since the control will still detect that the oven door is locked. The only way to clear the fault code is to disassemble the range and repair or reset the oven door lock assembly. You will need a service technician to complete this repair.
