Does the car have disc brakes or standard drum brakes !! if its disc brakes in the back. usually a stuck brake caliper will cause this. if it is stuck bad and can not get cup loose from caliper, replace caliper is best fix. and the smell from the back is probably the brake pads burning up. if the caliper sticks, then the pads will still be in contact with brake rotor.

1995 buick regal brake lights stay on

Check the pedal if it is jamming half way down. Brake lights work by 2 means one is a pressure switch the other is a mechanical switch both requires the pedal to be pressed. Your subscription tells me the brakes are binding and the switch is made.

Brake lights stay on and brake pedal does not come all the way back up even when car is turned off

Okay, you either have a bad Master cylinder, Brake booster or Brake pedal lever problem.

Look under the dash at the top of the brake pedal lever. See if any switches are binding, check the bolt that goes through the brake pedal lever.

If all is good, then the Master cylinder and Brake booster should be looked at.

There is one other possibility that requires a bit more work. Sometimes when a brakeline, anywhere on the car, collapses internally, it acts like a flap. This prevents the fluid from returning to the Master cylinder.

You would start by jacking up each wheel, with the trans in Neutral for the rear if a rear drive, and try to turn the individual wheel. Any wheel which drags bad is still holding hydraulic brake fluid and is why the Master cylinder is not returning to a normal position. The insides of that brakeline has collapsed.

Had new front brakes done and rotors discs brake pads and it smells like its burning rubber after driving 5 miles back brakes lock up and need to repair as to brake lights are on is this normal or wher the...

the work should be rechecked to make sure nothing is siezed and check the rear brakes to see what is causing them to lock up.if the smell is coming from the front then you could have a caliper that has siezed after the brakes were replaced.this does happen from time to time and there is not a usual way to know before they sieze until its driven unless when pushing the pistons back you notice they are hard to push back.

My brake lights stay on all the time

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly

Your brake pedal switch near the top of your brake pedal is either stuck or has failed. Dive underneath the dash look at the switch that is activated by the pedal.
Sometimes the plunger sticks and you can lube it and bring it back to life. Other times you have to change the switch.
The switch can be obtained from most any well known auto parts source and are not expensive.

NOTE: If you do change the switch and it is adjustable on the switch stem adjust it so that the brake lights come on after just barely depressing the pedal.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Kelly

My brake lights won't turn off and the brakes are not engaged

the brake light switch may be bad, or the brake pedal is not coming back enough to turn the switch off, look up under the dash where the brake brake is, and you may see if the pedal is depressing the switch properly.

Brake lights dont work and all back lights stay on

STOP

Do not drive the Town Car until you get the light problem figure out.

There are two possible components at fault.

Brake switch (above the brake paddle) can jam to on position.
Move the drive seat back and dive down to check on the condition of the brake switch.

Main light switch can be on its way out.

Check both and you should be on the right track/

My bet is on the foot brake switch,
