If you just upgraded memory and are having problems, the system memory is more than likely causing the problem. Try either taking out the new memory and leaving in the old (if you added a memory stick), or placing the old memory back in the computer and try starting up. Your memory could be either incompatible or it could not be seated properly.

So, if you replaced all of your memory in the upgrade, place the old memory back in and try to start up. If you added memory, then just remove the new piece you put in and try to start with only one card. I don't know how much memory you have.

Try this and let me know what happens.

How can i allocate more memory to video card of acer aspire 5100

You can only do that with onboard video cards. If you have an onboard you can choose how much ram to assign to it in your bios settings. However it is limited and if you already have 128 assigned to it, that's probably about all it's gonna give ya. But hey it never hurts to check Assigning your physical memory to your graphics card will result a shortage of your total system memory and your whole system will slow down a bit.
Video cards meant for better processing the graphical content of your system and free up your system's physical memory.[via]
So, if you buy a new and better video card with more memory you will have a fast system with better performance.

How to increase the video memory of my laptop

This is done in the BIOS screen. Upon startup of the computer, press the key or key combination the screen tells you to in order to enter the BIOS. Somwhere in there there will be a selection for video memory that you can change. Thanks and please don't forget to give this solution a fixya rating. :c)

    Memory upgrade

    1. Determine what memory you have, how much your laptop will take, and how much you need. Go to www.crucial.com, and it can automatically scan your computer and tell you what you have and what it will take.
    2. On the bottom is an access door for the memory. Remove the screw and pop open the access door.
    3. Either replace or add the new memory module into the slot(s). They go in at a 45 degree angle, then press down for the locking tabs to lock the memory into place. To remove the memory, you just pull out on the locking tabs and the memory will raise up slightly allowing you to remove it.
    4. Replace the access door and screw.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate this as fixya.

Trying to upgrade my 5100 from 2gb to 4gb ram

Many computers claim to be upgradeable to 4 GB of memory. While this may be true, it is also true that in order to reach 4 GB of memory the operating system needs to be 64-bit. I would be sure that the memory is seated properly first. Then I would exchange the memory. But my initial assumption is that it is too much memory for your operating system.

just look for notebook memory type ddr2, ddr2 all have the same amout of pins, you will have to remove one of the sticks of ram and replace with a 1GB or remove both and fit 2 x 1GB sticks.
