The volume button above my keyboard on my dell studio 17 is not working. Can you tell me how to fix it?

On my Studio 17 I know there's a bug where the Volume Up/Down/Mute soft touch buttons would flash, and my speakers would not work while it was flashing. A simple reboot usually fixed the problem. Try that and see if it will make noise after a reboot.

This may sound out there, but try lessening the sensitivity of your Touchpad, go to properties/options for it, and set it little lower, this often "Fixes" problems such as this..

Fn + F1 Change Display Device. Fn + F2 Wireless Control Fn + F3 Battery information Fn + F4 Decreases brightness on the integrated display only (not on an external monitor). Fn + F5 Increases brightness on the integrated display only (not on an external monitor). Fn + F6 Keyboard backlit(available only if a backlit keyboard is installed) Fn + F7 Mute Fn + F8 Decrease audio Volume. Fn + F9 Increase audio Volume. Fn + F10 CD Previous - Play previous media file. Fn + F11 CD Play/Pause - If there is Audio CD in system, Media player will play music. Fn + F12 CD Next - Play next media file.

this issue w hat u have is common with dell studio what u need to do is synchronize the keyboard and mouse again . u can do it in the following manner :- 1] press the button on the side of the studio 1 its known as reciever 2]then press the button on underneath the mouse and the keyboard then agfain press the button on the reciever this needs to be done within 5 sec if its done properly u can use the keyboard an mouse /.

The button strip has most likely failed and will need to be replaced

Shut down your computer, remove AC power, remove the battery for about a minute. Put the battery back in, hold the power button for 30 seconds. This should reset it.

Supposing that the Studio 15 / 17 has a slot loading drive:

You can either press the eject button above the keyboard (the touch sensitive one)

or

Go to 'Computer' in Vista and right click the CD/DVD drive. Then click 'Eject'.

This should work.

Normally above the keyboard where all the on/off buttons are, that face plate clips off and under there are screws to loosen the keyboard..

Contact Dell please. You need to have Dell send a service technician to your home/business to replace the hinge cover, this is a fairly general problem, there are issues with the wireing.
