EXTENDING EXIST 2Gb RAM to 4Gb

I have a Toshiba Satellite P200-140 PSPBOE Notebook. I have tried to increase the standard 2Gb RAM to 4Gb by having 2 x 2Gb chips installed at various suppliers, but my Toshiba does not recognise anything more than 2Gb and does not even start up when more than 2Gb is inserted, even after downloading BIOS version 1.7. When viewing specs, it is aparantly upgradable to 4Gb. This has become an urgent problem for me, please assist.

    Grrrrr,

Is there any possible way I can increase my memory? My notebook is getting slower by the day.

    I
inserted two 2 gig cards hopeing to sovle my memory problem but now my
notebook wont even start up. I have updated my Bios software with v 1.7 and no
change. I also placed 1 2gig card in and it worked but when I added a further 1gig (or 2gig) then my notebook couldn't start up.

Could there be a solution to this problem?

    Regards,

    Alexi

I want to change the 2 x 512DDR ram by 2x 2GB DDR ram memories in my A205-S4577/Toshiba. Will it work?

hi,
it will work as your notebook is supporting maximum 4 gb RAM but please check that you are using 32 bit operating system or 64 bit one.
If it is 32 bit then the system will be showing 3.2 gb RAM only as this is the 32 bit os limitation.

Memory upgrade problem

I did some checking on your model laptop and it says that the maximum supported amount of ram is 2gb (2 x 1gb) and so since the slots are made for 1gb max each then thats all they will see even with bigger 2gb chips installed

I put two 2GB RAM in my memory slot and only one is registering, so instead of 4GB RAM, I have 2GB. Why is this and what can I do to get the full 4GB?

ok i checked on your model and it says 2gb RAM max and so it is probably seeing both chips but only seeing 1gb each since that is what the slot is made for..
But to be totally sure you might wqant to check the bios and see what it says since some bios will sometimes give more details as to how many chips are installed.
or take out one chip and turn the computer back on and see if it shows 1gb or 2gb if it shows 1gb with one 2gb chip then you will know that the slot wont read more than 1gb.
