Sounds like the lens has gotten too weak to play dvd's. There really isn't much you can do. The only two things to try are a laser lens cleaning disc, and if you have it plugged into a power strip then try plugging it directly into the wall. Sometimes the power strip and decreased voltage through will help you extend the life of the player by plugging it straight into the wall outlet. If neither of these solutions work I would consider replacing the dvd player.
