SOURCE: Monitor displays

I used to repair LCD monitor from Dell. It works for me. You might be using these following steps to examine what wrong with your monitor. After you turned PC on and monitor stopped working or went black, you have to check that if you can see the image on the screen or not by shining a flashlight into the screen, not directly but find the best angle to the screen and take a look very closely. If you can see the icons or any image (Start menu), there will be a minor problem. This is because of CCFL lamps inside screen. Some of them were broken and it is very easy to replace. If you cannot see anything on the screen, there'll be some problems with inverter board. If you have soldering tool and want to fix it by yourself, check the caps first. It may cause this problem. Some caps might show leaking or burn spot on the board because of too high temp. If you don't have soldering tool, you better go get a technician to do so. Hope this help!! If anything I can help you with, feel free to let me know.
Thank you,

Have you tried via the Control Panel/Display function?  The driver provides the means but Windows provides access to those settings.

VA520 goes to sleep at random times and may or may not be able to wake it up (usually not)

Did you chaeck the 12vdc power supply to see if you are not getting intermittent power? It can also be the problem with the inverter board. Try it on another PC to narrow down the problem and post back.

My monitor turns on but then goes black after about 10 seconds, I quickly turn it off and back on and then screen is fine for 10 seconds. Sometimes I can fix it by gently tapping the on/off button...but...

It could also just be the button is faulty... but a 6 year monitor is going to start throwing more and more problems at you.

Go to eBay.com and treat yourself to a nice new monitor - they are very cheap these days.

Monitor displays the PC screen but switches off within 10 second

Unfortunatley your monitor is going out. I just had that problem. My sceen would come on, but after about 10min. it would blink off and turn black. I would have to hit the off button on the monitor, then turn it back on. It would work fine for a few minutes then black out again. I got a new/used monitor where I no longer have that problem.

I did check to make sure my hybernate was not activated, it wasn't, I had it set to never turn off.

Good luck.

My monitor keeps going to a black screen a coulpe of seconds after being turned on

Video (picture) must be constantly entering a monitor for a monitor to continue to display a picture after it self tests (goes on for a second or, two) Your monitor is fine; check it using another known good computer.

Monitor goes black for a few seconds

Try swapping the monitor cable from the working monitor to the other video connection on your computer. Effectively reversing the connections to isolate whether your problem is the video card in your computer or the monitor itself. If you find the working monitor displaying similar symptoms, then check your video drivers and ensure that you have all power saving features, screen savers, etc... turned off.

Monitor is on but disply id black

Having a similar problem.  When I turn my monitor on, the picture tries to come on, but then goes black.  After several times, I may get lucky and the picture will hold.  Is my monitor about ready to give up the ghost?  Mine is a few years old as well.

Monitor goes blank less than a second after turning on.

I start my computer and turn it on, and everything looks fine for about 1/4 of a second and then it goes black while leaving the power light green. I can only see the screen again after turning it off and on, but that's only for another 1/4 second. What's up?
I got my rosewill flatscreen as a hand me down from my father. I've had it for several years now. Was working fine until a month ago. When I turn the computer on the screen goes black after 1/4 of a saecond. I have to turn it off and on anywhere from 10 to 20 times before it stays on. I have checked all plugs to the computer and outlets. I have absolutely no idea whats causing this.
