The lens will not open, retract, or extend.
Follow the steps below to troubleshoot if the lens will not open, retract, or extend.
WARNING: There is a risk of hardware damage. Do not attempt to manually force the lens in or out. Doing so may damage the camera.
NOTE:
Because each of these steps represents a possible solution to this issue, check the camera status after completing each step.
- Ensure the battery is adequately charged or connect the AC power adapter (if applicable).
- Perform a power reset.
- If the camera lens is still not operating correctly after completing the troubleshooting steps suggested, service will be required.
How to initialize or reset a digital still camera back to factory settings.
Some cameras have a
RESET button built into them or a menu option to reset the camera to the default settings. The manuals of some camera models may have instructions on how to
initialize the camera, which is another name for resetting the camera to the default or original factory settings. Refer to the instruction manual supplied with your camera for specific information regarding the availability of a
RESET button or menu option to initialize or reset the default settings. Manuals are available online in the Manuals/Specs/Warranty section of the Sony® eSupport Web site.
Otherwise, continue with the manual reset procedure below:
- Turn off the camera.
- Ensure the camera is not connected to an AC power adapter.
- Remove the battery from the camera for 15 seconds.
- Reinsert the battery.
- Turn on the camera.
NOTE: If the issue is not resolved by performing a reset procedure, service may be required.
