My door will not unlock? It wont start the cycle and makes a clicking sound but still wont unlock. Please help us. It is holding my new clothes hostage.

Wait at least three minutes after the end of the cycle before attempting to unlock your Whirlpool washer. The door will not unlock until the motor speed equals 0 and 180 seconds have elapsed since the motor control unit received the "Stop" command. Sounds like the switch that tells the controller that the door is closed and locked is actually bad or the plastic molded part holding the switch is broken. Inspect the interface for cracks.

that is correct ,. pump water out then the door will open.

does it have a dial that you can manually turn to start the next cycle? You can usually drain the water by pulling the drain hose out from the wall drain behind hte washer....( usually just shoved in the drain not attached) but be aware that when you hold the hose below the water level in your washer it will start to drain. Then perhaps the door will unlatch.

What is the make, mode # of your washer? Do you have dial or, a keyboardl controls

your mach depending on model and cycle selected has a 3 to 5min "add a garment" feature.that means in the 1st 3-5mins of cycles when add a garment light is lit you may hit pause button once and the mach will stop and unlock door.after add a gament light is off,if u hit pause the cycle the mach will drain water and reset cycle..hope this helps

Changing Cycles, Options and Modifiers
Not all Options and Modifiers are available with all cycles. Cycles,
Options and Modifiers can be changed anytime before HOLD TO
START is selected.
Options and Modifiers can be changed anytime after HOLD TO
START is selected and before the start of the selected Option or
Modifier.
To cancel a cycle and select a new cycle
1. Select PAUSE/CANCEL twice.
2. Select desired cycle.
3. Select the desired OPTIONS.
4. Select HOLD TO START (for approximately 1 second) to
restart the washer at the beginning of the new cycle.
To cancel a cycle
1. Select PAUSE/CANCEL twice.
2. The washer powers down, the door unlocks, and clothes can
be removed.
NOTE: If the water level or the temperature is too high, the
washer will drain automatically before the door unlocks.
To change Options or Modifiers after the cycle has started
1. Select PAUSE/CANCEL.
2. Select the desired OPTIONS or MODIFIERS.
3. Select HOLD TO START (for approximately 1 second) to
continue the cycle.
To drain the washer manually
1. Select PAUSE/CANCEL.
2. Select DRAIN/SPIN.
3. Select HOLD TO START (for approximately 1 second) to
begin the drain.
4. When the spin is complete, the door unlocks. Items can be
removed from the washer.

try hitting pause cancel twice if that doesnt work turn the dial around all the way to off try to unplug the washer if all that fails the remove the three torx screws remove the lower panel and reach up where the latch is after unpluging the washer on the bottom of the latch is a tear shaped tab pull it down till it clicks that will unlock the door

Press and hold 'dry' & 'spin', shd unlock OR
Try holding the "end of cycle" button down for 5 or 6 seconds. You must hv done it accidently, it is the child lock device. Pl. rate if helped.

you might have something stuck in the impeller. if there isn't anything stuck, you might require a new motor
