We have a GE Microwave Model JVM1850CH02 that we bought new in 2004. Lately when we heat something, the timer runs down normally and the message that the food is ready is displayed but the microwave just keeps running. I try to stop it by pressing pause or by pressing clear but it just keeps running. Is this fixable by a simple reset or do I have to replace a microwave that's only 6 years old?

If everything else works on the microwave, but it simply does not heat, the magnetron is a logical guess. There are also three other components that make up the High Voltage network: HV transformer, HV Capacitor and HV Diode. The magnetron, however usually is the component that fails more commonly. If the model number you have this listed under is correct, you can view all these components at appliancepartspros.com. Just type in your model number and look under the "Cavity" section. The magnetron runs around $86. If you decide to repair this, please let me know. A microwave oven is not an appliance for a DIY beginner to start with. The High Voltage network has potentials of 3000 to 4000 volts and safety is important. If this is not your model number, post back with the correct info. I hope this helps you.

This may be due to the microwave section not working. Check the high voltage diode if it is ok, replace the Magneton.

The light inside the micro wave needs to be replaced most have a door on the back side that yo can remove the screw and unscrew the bulb and take to a applince shop and purchance a new one to replace.

Sounds like the magnetron has failed. There are some high voltage circuits that feed the magnetron and you can potentially get hurt if you don't know what you are doing. Would recommend you have it serviced by a professional if you want it fixed, otherwise look for a new one since the cost of repair can come close to the price of a new microwave oven.
