JVC Camcorder Model # GR-D270U

The GR-D270U uses SD cards. They should be available at just about any department, electronics, or office-supply store.
Make sure you get an SD card, not an SDHC card. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work.

Hardware of this camcorder supports up to 2GB memory card so 4GB is more than its capacity and causing error.
Try 1GB or 2GB memory card in camcorder.

Not 100% sure but when my gz-hd3u had the same problem I cleaned as well as pushed in all the battery connect pins on the camera. one of the middle pins detects if the battery is installed.

I disagree VERY much with Bubbabear64. I tried what he said and I had lots of problems. The computer wouldn't import and sometimes it wouldn't recognize the camera. I installed the 2 programs that came with the camera on the CD, and all of a sudden it worked great. So install the audio driver and the picture importer on the JVC disk that came with your camera.

You may not need any driver.
Just get a 4 pin firewire cable and connect to PC.

then,
Switch on the Cam.
Open Windows Movie Maker and import video from device.

I have the same model and I also had that problem. It turned out to be the motor. Do you hear a faint humming sound? If this is similar, you will have to take it to a designated JVC repair shop.
