The VN-2000PC doesn't connect to the computer via a USB port. To transfer your files to a computer, connect the earphone jack to the line In (blue) jack of the computer with a 3.5mm to 3.5 mm audio patch cable. Use a program like Audacity to record the audio track during playback. Make sure to set the Audio input to Line In. (In Windows 7, click Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound. Under Sound, click Manage Audio Devices. Then select the Recording tab and set the input device.) Then set the recording device in the software as well. Click the Record button in the software and then start the play back on your VN-2000PC. You should see a flat line for a bit then see a wave form start. If the line stays flat, you haven't set the Line In device properly.
You don't say if you are running a 32 or 64 bit o/s. ??
The VN-2100PC can run Vista 32 bit ..but does not work with Vista 64 bit systems.
So....you can download software for Vista 32 bit at www.olympusamerica.com this should work with Win7 as long as it is a 32 bit system.
Is your digital wave player an outdated version? If so, you may have to update it you can get it from the Olympus site..I downloaded the original software from:
http://www.mywma.org/vn2100pc.html
then update it from :

Hi. We have the VN-2100PC model. On this model, to delete the current file: press the "ERASE" button, then press the left-hand side of the main button, so that "YES" is flashing on the screen, then press the "PLAY" button to confirm.
vn-2100 does not have that capability...the vn-2100pc does... to download from vn-2100, you will need a compaticord to put in the ear on the recorder and the mic of the computer or device and transfer that way
