MODE DIAL IS NOT IN PROPER POSITION

It sounds like your camera, the Nikon Coolpix MN35Z, is experiencing an error with the mode dial. If moving the mode dial so that it rests in a detent and the message is still displayed, it indicates a problem with the switch inside the camera (that is operated when the mode dial is rotated). This is not a user serviceable part, and should be professionally repaired. I found United Camera to list a Mode Dial repair to be $42. there are plenty of others that can make this repair for you, too - this was simply the first I saw that had a price (I have never done business with nor am I affiliated with United Camera in any way).

Please try to remove the battery and let it sit for atleast 5mins. then reconnect it again. This should reset the system and can resolve the problem.

Selecting the desired language:

1. Set the mode dial to P and press the power to switch to turn on the camera to the ON position.

2. Press MENU button.

3. Press arrows dial buttons to select the MODE MENU.

4. Press arrow dial buttons to SET UP tab.

5. Press arrow dial buttons to select Language.

6. After selecting the language press OK dial button on the middle of the group buttons.

That is all. So you can change the language by this way.

Hello.

Turn the function dial to the drive mode position.
Press the function button in the center of the dial.
Turn the front control dial to select the self-timer drive mode.
Use the rear control dial to to switch between a ten-second and a two-second delay.
Press the shutter-release button partway down or press the function button to set the mode.

When you are ready to take the picture.
Press the shutter button partway down to set the focus and exposure.
Press the shutter button all the way down to start the timer.

Something seems to be broken or off between the mode dial and the switch. It also may have broken internal parts.
I have had a camera with a similar problem. It was that the small switch inside was broken, and could not be repaired.
These mode switches can be changed, but will require a digital camera repairman to do such a job. It also could be sold for parts/repair on a site such as Ebay.

The position from the dial wheel is not corresponding with the electrical position. If you can do it by yourself you can adjust it and tighten the midscrew from the dialwheel

i had the same problem try this: tap the outside of the dial lightly while turning the camera on it should basically "pop" right out!!!!!!!!;)
